Everything revealed from the latest gaming showcases, from a brand-new Konami RPG to a long-awaited remake finally getting a date.
If you thought 2026 was a great year for you as a JRPG fan, buckle up, because the 2027 JRPG lineup is shaping up to blow it out of the water. You already knew Persona 4 Revival was coming your way next year. You already knew Final Fantasy VII Revelation was on the horizon.
You already knew Kingdom Hearts IV was locked in for 2027, and there's even talk floating around that Persona 6 could sneak into that same window. That alone would make the lineup one of the best in recent memory, but a recent showcase just handed you a pile of fresh updates that make next year look even more stacked than you thought.
Let's start with the biggest surprise: a brand new RPG from Konami called Rev. NOiR. The developer behind it is ILCA, the same team that worked on One Piece Odyssey, and now they're teaming up with Konami to build something completely original. You've probably spent years watching people give Konami grief over pachinko machines and a lack of new games, but that narrative has been shifting fast.
Between reviving Metal Gear, Castlevania, and Silent Hill, and now putting resources behind fresh concepts like Rev. NOiR., the publisher is clearly trying to prove it's back in the gaming business for real. Rev. NOiR. is confirmed to launch sometime in 2027, adding yet another heavy hitter to the 2027 JRPG lineup.
As for what Rev. NOiR. is actually about, you follow two characters, Asch and Finé. Fate throws them together, forcing them to confront something called the Lightfall, a calamity that kills everything it touches. As their journey to stop it unfolds, they discover a fate neither of them saw coming.

The world in this game has apparently been guided for centuries by something called the Determinant.
Using astral ordinances to keep the peace, but that peace is now threatened again by Lightfall. Asch runs into Finé and her guardian Diana in a small village as the season of Lightfall approaches, and his own astral ordinance pushes him to save as many people as he can.
He sets out to hunt down the mysterious sources believed to be causing the calamity, unaware, along with Finé and Diana, of what's really waiting for them. The story centers on three major characters, Asch, Finé, and Kross, though you can expect more to be introduced as it gets closer to release.
Given how well Konami has been handling its recent output, there's a lot of reason to be optimistic about how Rev. NOiR. turns out, and it's easily one of the more intriguing entries in the 2027 JRPG lineup. Next, you finally have a release date for Fate/EXTRA Record, the remake of the original Fate/Extra. It's launching January 28, and thankfully, whatever publishing and development snags were holding it up have been sorted out.
A 17-minute gameplay showcase is already out there for you to check out, and it looks solid. This one isn't going to be the massive, big-budget release that a lot of the 2027 JRPG lineup will bring, but smaller-scale games like this have historically been worth your time, and the original Fate/Extra was very well received back in the day.
Fate/EXTRA Record tells the story of a war fought by modern magi who risk everything on the bonds they've built and the wishes they're chasing.
It's being framed as the first true RPG entry in the Fate series, reborn with a sleeker art style and a new strategic combat system. You'll be fighting for survival in the Holy Grail War, where masters and their servants battle over an all-powerful artifact capable of granting any wish, all set within a hidden digital world called SE.RA.PH. There are 128 master-servant pairs fighting it out, all hoping the Grail eventually grants their wish.
Along the way, you're not just fighting; you're also waging an information war, exploring dungeons, and digging up your enemies' true names to gain the upper hand. As a master, you'll explore digital dungeons to strengthen your servant, and you'll run into rival masters and their own servants along the way, leading to unexpected confrontations.
Combat itself is deck-based and strategic, mixing fast-paced action with flashy skill animations, and since every servant you contract has unique appearances and abilities, your deck-building choices become the real key to winning the war. Fate/EXTRA Record lands January 28th, and it's shaping up to be a solid, smaller addition to the 2027 JRPG lineup.

Moving on, Digimon Story: Time Stranger is getting a proper expansion called A Hero's Eternal Legacy, and it's officially confirmed for 2027. The trailer doesn't reveal much, but it does confirm the story picks up three years after the war between the Agents and the Olympos XII, with a new hero stepping up in a tale about courage and friendship.
If you enjoyed Time Stranger, this is good news, since that game performed really well commercially, and now it's getting a full-on expansion instead of just minor DLC, which honestly wasn't anything special. Hopefully this expansion gives you a meaty reason to jump back in, with new content, new Digimon, and a story worth caring about.
It'll be available on PS5, XBOX Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PC sometime in 2027.
Considering how long the gaps between mainline Digimon Story games have historically been, it's a nice change of pace to get something new this soon, even if it's an expansion rather than a full sequel. It's a bit reminiscent of how Cyber Sleuth got Hacker's Memory years ago.
That game reused plenty of assets but still delivered a satisfying amount of new content. That's exactly the kind of value you're hoping this expansion brings as part of the broader 2027 JRPG lineup. On top of all that, Final Fantasy Resonance now has a playable demo out, and a ton of people are already diving in.
If you're the type who skips demos for games you're already sold on, that's understandable, but reports suggest players are spending six to eight hours in this one alone. Square Enix has said the intended demo experience is closer to three to five hours, which is still an impressive amount of content for something you're not even paying for.
Better yet, your save data will carry over into the full release once it launches. Final Fantasy Resonance is set to release on PS5, XBOX Series X/S, Switch 2, Switch, and PC on October 22nd, giving you a taste of the 2027 JRPG lineup a little early.
There's one more announcement worth your attention, even though it's not technically a JRPG.
Konami isn't just working on Rev. NOIR; it's also publishing an entirely different new IP called Rhapsody in Scarlet, a magic-themed action-adventure game that looks genuinely distinct. Set in a rapidly shifting version of 1920s New York, it follows Ellie Myers, a magic user with a deep passion for jazz, who gets pulled by a mysterious stranger into a place called a Seeker.
From there, a massive conspiracy unravels, filled with danger and madness, and Ellie, who has unusual powers and a hidden past, gets swept right into the middle of it. This is exactly the kind of thing you want to see when a big publisher commits to fresh ideas.

Mixing jazz music with action-heavy gameplay might sound like an odd combination on paper, but the concept and style come across as genuinely unique, and that alone makes it worth keeping an eye on. More importantly, it's another sign that Konami is fully reinvested in gaming, juggling new original ideas alongside a wave of returning franchises.
Between Castlevania: Curse of Belmont, the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, and the resurrection of Metal Gear Solid 4, plus Silent Hill entries like Townfall, Silent Hill f, and the Silent Hill 2 remake, Konami's output over just the past three years has been staggering.
It wasn't long ago that Master Collection Vol. 1 marked the beginning of this turnaround, and now you're looking at brand new IPs like Rev.
Rev. NOiR and Rhapsody in Scarlet are standing alongside a wave of revived classics. It's genuinely one of the more compelling comeback stories in gaming right now, and even if Rhapsody in Scarlet doesn't end up being a flawless release, the willingness to take creative risks says a lot about where the publisher is headed.
Between Rev. NOiR., Fate/EXTRA Record, the Digimon Story expansion, the Final Fantasy Resonance demo, and Konami's surprising new IP, the 2027 JRPG lineup is already looking like one of the strongest in years, and there's still more waiting to be revealed.
