Celeste How to Unlock and Complete B-Sides Guide

Here's a quick guide on how to unlock and complete B-Sides in Celeste.

The B-Sides in Celeste are where the game really starts to challenge your movement skills more. These alternate versions of the main chapters are harder, longer and packed with trickier rooms. They're optional, but they are a great way to test how comfortable you've gotten with Madeline's movement.

Unlocking B-Sides

B-Sides are unlocked through hidden cassette tapes in the main chapters. Each tape is hidden in a different location, so you'll have to stray off the beaten path. 

First off, if you see a cassette, half the job is to get to it. It may take some careful climbing and dashing to get to, so don't worry if you don't get to one right away. If you don't feel comfortable with the movement of the game, you can always come back later.

Previous Chapters

You don't have to do all the B-Sides in one go. If you're new to them, begin with the first chapters. They let you get accustomed to the faster pace and more challenging room layouts without throwing the most difficult challenges at you immediately. Get ready to die a lot. That’s par for the course in Celeste, and B-Sides are built around the idea of learning through repetition.

Discover Every Room

With B-Sides, rushing pays off less than patience. When you enter a new room, take a moment to scan the obstacles and decide where you need to go. If there is a particular part that keeps tripping you up, don’t worry about the entire chapter, just work on that one part. After a few tries, the movements will begin to feel more natural.

Make Your Movement Efficient

In B-Sides, your dash, wall climbs and jumps all become more key. Don’t waste your movement options at the start of a room, especially when you know you’re going into an easier section.

You will also begin to realize that small adjustments can make a huge difference. It sometimes just takes slowing down and trying a different approach to get through a room that seems impossible.

B-Sides are not to be rushed. Get the cassette tapes, take the chapters one at a time, anticipate a lot of failed attempts along the way. When you stop worrying about dying and treat every attempt as practice the harder rooms become much easier to understand. There’s a reward in completing a B-Side because you know you earned every screen.
