EA Sports May Finally Revive Its Fight Night Boxing Franchise

EA Sports has teased a potential Fight Night comeback, raising hopes for a new boxing game after years of silence.

EA Sports appears to be teasing the return of their iconic Fight Night boxing genre, over 15 years since the release of Fight Night Champions. The publisher has issued a promotional poster with the text “The Fight Is Never Over,” teasing a possible future installment.

The latest mainline installment, Fight Night Champion, came out in 2011 for the PlayStation 3 and XBOX 360. It was a game well known for its graphic presentation and boxing gameplay, making it a prominent game of its time. Fight Night Champion was a big technical achievement for many fans.

Its graphics were particularly amazing when it first landed on shop shelves, showing just how far sports games had come on seventh-gen consoles. Fans have waited years since then for another significant entry in the series. Boxing games have continued to be released, but there’s clearly a gap for fans of the sport who enjoyed the approach EA Sports took with the sport without a new Fight Night.

EA Sports' latest teaser could mean the return of the fight we all want.

The poster that was revealed recently has provided optimism to fans that EA Sports is bringing back Fight Night. The phrase is "The Fight Is Never Over," and it teases something about the future of the franchise, but there’s no confirmation of a release date, formal game, or platforms.

The potential return comes as boxing games have begun to pick up more popularity thanks to games like Undisputed. The game did provide fans with another option, but longtime fans are waiting for EA Sports to return to its renowned boxing brand. Fight Night was a spinoff of the Knockout Kings franchise and one of boxing’s most popular brands for EA Sports.

Its return would allow the publisher to reintroduce a familiar face to devoted fans, as well as to pass the series down to a new generation. It is not known if the future game will bear the Fight Night brand or be released under a new title. The announcement provided by EA Sports didn’t provide any other details, leaving fans waiting for more info.

For now, the teaser is a good sign for fans of boxing games who have been waiting for a new chapter for years. If EA Sports does go through with this, the series might be back after a long absence, but we still need an official game announcement with concrete specifics.
