New to Minecraft? Here's a quick guide on how to craft tools in your first world.
Crafting is one of the first things any Minecraft player should master. Once you’ve chopped down some trees and collected the wood, you can use your inventory to turn the logs into wooden planks.
Combine 4 planks to create a crafting table. This will give you a larger 3x3 crafting grid, and allow you to make better tools, weapons and useful items to help you survive.
Create Your First Tool Set
Create a crafting table and produce some sticks from wooden planks. Craft a wooden pickaxe out of sticks and planks, then mine stone to improve your tools. Stone tools are the best for day one. They are stronger and will last a lot longer than wooden tools. Get resources and defend yourself better with a stone pickaxe, axe, sword and shovel.
Understand Which Tool to Use
Each tool has a purpose. Pickaxes are used to mine stone, ores, and other hard blocks. Axes cut wood faster than your hands. Shovels collect dirt, sand and gravel fast. Your primary weapon against hostile mobs is a sword (though an axe can do heavy damage, too). With the right tool, it will last longer, and you will be able to gather the resources much faster.

Upgrade Your Gear
You can explore caves. Mine up some iron ore and smelt it in a furnace to make iron ingots. They can be further crafted to produce tools and armor that are far more durable than any stone equipment. Eventually, upgrade to diamond gear and then finally to netherite gear for the best durability and performance.
Additional Crafting Tips
Always keep extra cobblestones and sticks in your inventory so you can craft more tools if they break. Keep all your crafting materials in chests so you don’t have to waste time searching for them.
Collect more resources and experiment with some of the crafting recipes for armor, shields, buckets, and other useful gear. When you’re out collecting resources, exploring caves, and surviving those perilous nights, knowing how to craft early will make your life so much easier throughout your Minecraft adventure.
