007 First Light Hits 4 Million Sales as IO Interactive Expands its Plans for the Bond Game

IO Interactive’s latest James Bond game has crossed another major sales milestone, with more content, a Nintendo Switch 2 version, and Steam Deck support still on the way.

007 First Light has reached another major sales milestone, with IO Interactive confirming that the James Bond game has now sold well over 4 million copies. That puts the game in a strong commercial position after concerns that its $70 price and relatively short 15-to-17-hour campaign could make it harder to sell. 

The latest milestone also gives IO Interactive more room to grow the game’s audience. First Light has yet to receive a major discount, meaning future sales could increase once the game starts appearing in seasonal promotions. A 20%, 30%, 40%, or even 50% discount during events such as Black Friday could bring in another wave of players. 

IO Interactive previously indicated that First Light was getting close to breaking even, although the exact wording surrounding that milestone is unclear. 

That is important because the game was not simply created as a standalone project but also helped establish the foundation for future 007 games. With that groundwork now in place, you could see later entries develop more quickly and potentially become even more commercially successful.

The game's reception has also helped its position. Both the commercial performance and critical response have been strong, while the fact that First Light has reached 4 million sales without a major discount makes the achievement more significant. If the game continues selling throughout the rest of the year, reaching 5 million or even 6 million copies is possible. 

The game's performance also adds to a larger trend involving shorter games. Resident Evil Requiem can be completed in roughly 12 to 14 hours, while Pragmata takes around 10 to 12 hours for its main experience. 

That becomes even more relevant as the gaming audience gets older. Many players who started gaming during their teenage years or even earlier are now in their 30s and 40s, and they may not have the time to spend dozens of hours completing a single game. A focused 15-to-17-hour campaign can give you a complete experience without requiring weeks of spare time. 

007 First Light also has more content planned beyond its main campaign. IO Interactive has already released additional challenges and upgrades, and it will also release more content as part of the game's first year of support. New gadgets and a New Game Plus mode are planned, along with a new mission that will bring Bama back into the story. 

The TACSIM content is another important part of the experience, particularly if you want something beyond the main campaign. 

New outfits are now available, including the Diamond in the Rough outfit, which gives Bond a more refined appearance. Another outfit, RPL on Death, can be unlocked by linking your IO Interactive and Twitch accounts and watching a participating 007 First Light creator on Twitch for one hour. That gives players another cosmetic reward outside the main campaign.

Tacsim is also receiving three new weapons that can be unlocked for future assignments. The DRS7 Silenced SMG requires Clearance Level 16 and 3,000 Intel, while the DRX2 Machine Pistol requires Clearance Level 12 and 30,000 Intel. The Stormberg .40 Cal requires a Clearance Level of 10 and 30,000 Intel.

The Nintendo Switch 2 version is another major part of First Light's future. The game was originally expected to arrive during the summer, although that window is now becoming less certain. Regardless of when the final release date arrives, you will be able to see the Switch 2 version in action at Gamescom 2026. 

Performance will be particularly impressive because 007 First Light already runs well on more powerful hardware such as the PS5 Pro. Getting the game running on a portable console is one thing, but maintaining a stable frame rate is another. 

A consistent 30 frames per second in handheld mode would be an impressive result, especially if the game avoids frequent drops into the high 20s. IO Interactive has plenty of experience with technical optimization, so the Switch 2 version could be worth watching closely.

The timing of the Switch 2 release could also give First Light another boost. 

While you probably should not expect the game to sell massive numbers on the platform, even a moderate performance would add another group of players to its audience. Combined with future discounts and additional content, the Switch 2 launch gives the game several ways to keep its momentum going.

007 First Light is also now Steam Deck verified, giving you another option if you prefer playing on a portable device. It may not be your first choice for a visually demanding Bond game, but the verification means you can take it with you and play it on the go. 

There is also a $19.99 upgrade for the Deluxe Edition, although that price has raised some criticism because certain players received the Deluxe content for free through purchasing or pre-ordering the game. The upgrade gives existing owners another way to access the additional edition content, but the $20 price can feel high compared with the value of the base game. 

Looking further ahead, IO Interactive is already positioned to continue the 007 series with another game. First Light itself took several years to arrive after IO Interactive initially announced that it was working on a James Bond project, so the hope is that the next entry will not require another six-year wait. 

For now, though, IO Interactive has good reason to be pleased with 007 First Light. Four million copies sold is a major achievement for a $70 game that focuses on a relatively short campaign, and its sales could continue increasing as discounts, new content, and the Switch 2 version arrive. With more tacsim content, New Game Plus, new gadgets, additional missions, and Steam Deck support already part of the picture, First Light still has plenty ahead.
