After Years Of Searching, Minecraft Alpha 1.1.1 Build Has Been Found

Alpha 1.1.1, Minecraft build, which was available in 2010 for a few years, has been rediscovered recently.

Internet archivists found the elusive Alpha 1.1.1 version of Minecraft after years of going through the internet. Internet archivists worked hard for years to find a file of the build of Alpha 1.1.1. Cause this version was only available for a few hours in 2010 and then got updated to Alpha 1.1.2. This story is encouraging, as internet archivists often turned the internet upside down to find long-lost old versions of different games. Now that the history of their loved game is secure, the Minecraft community is relieved.

So there’s this lunasorcery, who played Minecraft on her laptop, then switched to PC in 2011. But she didn’t throw the laptop away, and also cleverly backed up the user profiles. She got a DM months ago from someone from Omniarchive, but she didn’t care for it much.

Then she got another DM, and then she decided to search for the build to leave this situation behind. Omniarchive contacted her on suspicion of having the build based on Lunasorcery’s 2010 Tweet, which says, “oooooohhhhhhh Minecraft update!”. Luna experienced her whole finding the build experience through a Twitter Thread. This is how Minecraft Alpha 1.1.1 was found after a decade of searching (via Kotaku).

After using all her options, Luna went through her USB hard drive, which has .jar files of Minecraft and several different versions. And particularly, one has the correct timestamp and date to potentially be the Alpha 1.1.1 build. And when she unzipped the file, it was indeed the legendary Alpha 1.1.1. After posting on the Omniarchive Discord server, the moderators verified it and got super excited. Luna finishes the story by saying, “Never Delete Anything,” and supports internet archivists.

In 2009, Minecraft was an indie game that was often updated on Fridays and received its Alpha state. But Alpha 1.1.1 was released on a Saturday in 2010. And it caused players to go through a perpetually grey screen. And it stayed for more than three hours. So developer Mojang quickly fixed it and launched Alpha 1.1.2.

So we suggest players keep an extra copy of the newest Minecraft build, just in case.
