The highly anticipated weapon customization and new Illuminate enemies are part of a massive new update for Helldivers 2 that was released very recently.
After its release on February 8th, 2024, Helldivers 2 sold over 15 million copies and received positive reviews from critics. It won multiple awards and was nominated multiple times for best video game of 2024. After a series of updates, the highly anticipated weapon customization and new Illuminate enemies are finally part of a massive new update for Helldivers 2 that was released very recently. While development on Helldivers 2 came to a halt a few weeks ago, the writers likely had this plot in mind: the next chapter of the Second Galactic War takes place just as Super Earth is about to be overrun.
In response to “a massive Illuminate fleet, in clear violation of the enemy’s recent eradication,” Helldivers 2 has launched a new Major Order. The main invasion fleet brings three new types of enemies to the third faction as it emerges from the Meridian Singularity, which the Helldivers heroically stopped from devouring Super Earth. The ability to personalize your primary weapon with skins and attachments is another perk of the upgrade.
With the arrival of the whole Illuminate fleet, Super Earth has reached its most horrific state ever. Under Major Order, players must stop the Illuminate from advancing on three worlds: Widow’s Harbor, Pilen V, and New Haven. Meanwhile, squids have taken over planets in a sector adjacent to Super Earth. However, the briefing concludes with a dreadful note that reads, “Battle on Super Earth is unavoidable,” implying that players would soon be engaging in battles on their home turf.
Also, the long-awaited ability to personalize primary weapons in Helldivers 2 is now at your fingertips. Now, there are levels for every primary gun that, when completed, unveil weapon attachments, camo schemes, and more. Some of the variants include sights, underbarrel foregrips, and muzzle alterations like flash hiders or muzzle breaks.
Additional information, including sway, ergonomics, and a recoil pattern simulation with the current setup, is now displayed. You may now save your weapon configurations and easily switch between them.

Moreover, instead of having a rotating selection, every cosmetic in Superstore is always in stock. Similarly, prior to the FRV’s incorporation into the game, the Warbonds were receiving new patterns. May 15th will see the release of the Masters of Ceremony Warbond and additional FRV skins inspired by Chemical Agents, Viper Commandos, Truth Enforcers, and Freedom’s Flame Warbonds.
The new Illuminate invasion adds a heartbreaking new chapter to the game’s ongoing narrative, in addition to fresh content. According to the in-game instructions, “preventing this force from reaching Super Earth is not possible,” and the goal is to “inflict as much damage to the enemy fleet as possible while Mega City defenses are bolstered.” The Mega City maps, which are likely far denser than the current metropolitan areas, are a new biome that will be available on Super Earth shortly, and this seems to be a preview of them.
