Following the dwindling of Battlefield 2042’s player base, Dice continues to update the game with patch 4.0
It’s been a tumultuous time for Battlefield 2042. The game received a very poor reception for various reasons, ranging from bugs to server issues and a lack of basic features. The game released to a peak player base of over 100,000, and over the few months following its release, the player base slowly dwindled to now, where in the past 24 hours, only 2,056 people played the game.
This, fortunately and respectably, has not deterred Dice. The company, unfortunately, has experience in redeeming a game, having done so with titles like Star Wars Battlefront II. This situation is different, however. Battlefield 2042 has clearly suffered from a wide range of issues, many of which need to be addressed. The developers can work on these fixes following their announcement in February that Season One of the game would be delayed from Spring to Summer.
This meant Dice could work on important fixes and add new features, such as the voice chat system that was added following the most recent patch. The most recent patch notes portray that there are over a hundred bug fixes alone in this update. The Lead game designer, Florian, stated this on Twitter prior to the update’s release.
The update contains so many fixes that numerous people have commented about their excitement regarding Battlefield 2042 finally garnering more and more support.
The unfortunate nature behind these updates is whether they are too late. The player base has already dwindled, so it will be very interesting to see if the game picks up once again following the slew of updates. Whether that happens, only time will tell, but we can hope that Battlefield 2042 experiences a resurgence. Tell us what you think will happen in the comments below.
