Bethesda Have Delayed Starfield and Redfall to Early 2023

Starfield and Redfall were both intended to release this year, however, Bethesda have issued a statement on a delay.

Bethesda Game Studios and Arkane Studios are both under the umbrella company of Bethesda Softworks, which publishes many games of many different genres, including Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Dishonored, Doom, and more. This year, Redfall and Starfield were expected to be released, with Starfield in particular having the very attractive release date of 11/11/2022, which does not come around every year.

Many rumours were circulated on whether or not Starfield would be delayed. For those unaware, Bethesda Game Studios titles live in infamy for their buggy releases. Since the days of Morrowind, Bethesda Game Studios has often released its games in ‘buggy’ states. Fallout 76 was particularly a poor release, on top of a sincere lack of content, and Bethesda needs a major win. Because of all of this, people were already theorising a delay.

Redfall is Arkane Studios’ next title. Following the release of the very successful Deathloop on PlayStation exclusively, the first Arkane title to be available solely on Xbox consoles also needs to be a huge win for the company. The multiplayer title that was announced back in June of last year has also undergone its fair share of development turbulence.

Because of all of these details, Bethesda stated this on their Twitter:

Yes, the two titles have been delayed to the first half of 2023. Following the announcement, there has been a lot of dismay and excitement with players both hating the delay and some believing it may be necessary for the finished product. All I will say is that the titles can only be better with extra time. Though admittedly, the lack of a Starfield release at the end of the year leaves the final stages of 2022 looking oddly barren.

Xbox’s very own head Phil Spencer also commented on the delays:

These decisions are hard on teams making the games & our fans. While I fully support giving teams time to release these great games when they are ready, we hear the feedback. Delivering quality & consistency is expected, we will continue to work to better meet those expectations. https://t.co/mIfXGd3rui

Phil Spencer has voiced his support for the delays and said that “Delivering quality and consistency is expected, we should continue to work to better meet those expectations.”

We will no doubt hear more about these two titles and the Xbox and Bethesda showcase that will hopefully include more details on these two games, and perhaps players will finally receive that coveted gameplay video of Starfield that everyone has been so excited to receive ever since Starfield’s trailer. Fans will be waiting with bated breath for any more details surrounding these highly anticipated titles.
