Bungie and PlayStation have Officially Joined Together Months After the First Announcement of the Deal

Bungie have also stated that Desiny 2 will remain on all platforms.

It has been months since the announcement of this massive deal that would shake the foundations of the industry. Bungie and PlayStation announced that they would join in a colossal $3.6 billion deal. Of course, this deal needs to be fully agreed upon and ratified, etc.

However, after all of the waiting. It seems that the deal is done, and both companies announced the ratification of this deal on Twitter. PlayStation stated this:

The agreement to acquire Bungie has closed. So now we can officially say… welcome to the PlayStation family, @Bungie! pic.twitter.com/x5jVmelaxl

Meanwhile, Bungie stated this on Twitter:

We are proud to officially join the incredible team at PlayStation, we are excited for the future of our company, and we are inspired to bring together players from all over the world to form lasting friendships and memories.

In addition to this, the company expanded upon all of these details with a post on their official site. The post articulated various aspects of the deal, including the fact that the famous title Destiny 2 will remain across all platforms, the specific quote being “We will continue to drive one, unified Bungie community. Our games will continue to be where our community is, wherever they choose to play.” This was an unexpected move from both companies, but one that is welcome to many Destiny 2 fans who have enjoyed the game so much on platforms not under the PlayStation moniker.

It is bizarre for many people who grew up in the 2000s with Bungie and Xbox giving us three of the best shooters ever made: Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, and Halo 3, respectively. To see Bungie move to an independent studio and then once again merge, and not only that, but merge with PlayStation, is a shock. Regardless, the move seems not to have disheartened Bungie, with the company claiming that “We will continue to independently publish and creatively develop our games.” This is an immense amount of creative freedom and a massive win for Bungie.

Finally, they further stated that they want to continue the politically, socially, and morally conscious movements that the company has been at the forefront of for the last few years. Their goal to make a more “equitable world” has not and will not change following the merger, with Bungie claiming that SIE (Sony Interactive Entertainment) supports them.

The final statement we were left with was this: “That’s the real dent in the universe we want to make — the one we want to last beyond us. Be a part of this future with us. See you, Starside.” It’s a poignant message from one of the biggest companies in the world.
