CDPR Focusing on Cyberpunk 2 and The Witcher 4 Only

CDPR has said that the studio would continue to develop AAA open-world role-playing games, Cyberpunk 2, and The Witcher 4.

Among the creators whose works many role-playing game players were compelled to experience was CD Projekt RED, whose 2015 release The Witcher 3 was a critical and commercial triumph. While the previous two Witcher games were solid on their own, the developer truly came into their own with the third installment.

Reviews for Cyberpunk 2077 were divided when it was released. Even though the technological debut was a major letdown, the game’s content was generally well-received. Thanks to all the updates it has received over the years, Cyberpunk 2077 is widely considered to be the best science fiction RPG by the developer.

Marcin Iwiński, studio co-founder, and Adam Badowski, joint CEO, have stated that CD Projekt Red will remain focused on its “niche” — the genre that has produced masterpieces like The Witcher 3 — as it continues to develop massively multiplayer online role-playing games, such as Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher IV.

For the time being, CD Projekt RED has said why the studio would continue to develop AAA open-world role-playing games. Among the most prominent names in role-playing game development today is CD Projekt RED. Cyberpunk and The Witcher are two of their series.

Marcin Iwiński, co-founder of CD Projekt RED, and Adam Badowski, joint-CEO, discussed the reasons for the studio’s decision to develop AAA open-world role-playing games in a recent episode of the AnsweRED Podcast. The first thing Iwiński said was, “We can’t do all the things we want to do and want to do”.

The Witcher IV

It was an attempt that was ultimately unsuccessful. We should utilize our strengths by focusing on areas where we excel. Quick to provide his two cents, Badowski declared, “Our strategy has everything in it.” This is our, uh, specialty: making narrative-driven, open-world AAA role-playing games. So that’s the center of interest.

As they continued conversing, Iwiński remarked, “It’s hard to grow up because there are so many temptations.” The fact that these people are engaging in this activity online is just fantastic. You say, “Alright, no, let’s just take a deep breath and go back to what we were doing.” We adore playing it. If we try to do too much, we will burn out and fail to meet our objectives.

Additionally, Badowski mentioned in the fascinating interview that moving forward, CD Projekt RED games must expand upon previous ones. This sheds light on the company’s game development process.

It’s intriguing to speculate about what CD Projekt RED could have accomplished with games in other genres, but it’s reasonable that the studio has grown proficient in just one area. A superior product that gamers would adore should result from this, in theory.

The developers at CD Projekt RED are putting in a lot of time and effort into the next Witcher and Cyberpunk titles. Both will, without a doubt, be AAA open-world role-playing games. The exciting news is that Cyberpunk 2 is officially in the pre-production stages. Hopefully, the pace of development will continue to increase in the coming months. Even if neither title has a release date just yet, it’s great to have them both in the works.
