Disney and Epic Games announced a new partnership with Disney to collaborate with the Fortnite Multiverse and Unreal Engine 5.
A new landmark partnership was announced when Disney and Epic Games linked major brands like Marvel and Pixar to Fortnite and Unreal Engine 5, however, is not the first time Epic Games Store collaborated with other top branches of entertainment and gaming. With this newfound partnership, Disney seems more robust and encompassing, this has led to having struck a newfound opportunity in the gaming universe of Fortnite.
Epic Games has transparently been open about the plans to create a metaverse within Fortnite’s framework. To better understand this concept, Fortnite will serve more as a hub, not only for massively Battle Royales modes, but a whole number of different gaming entertainment services and experiences.
The best examples of this more synergistic and multifaceted approach for Fortnite can be seen with the game’s multiple Virtual concerts and the more recent Fortnite Festival, which brought Harmonix’s once ubiquitous Rock Band to the game. With this and additional addon to the universe of Fortnite such as Lego Fortnite and Rocket Racing, Epic is opening up new possibilities to more a virtual world rather than just a traditional multiplayer game.
Disney and Epic Games issued a joint statement announcing the new partnership, further expanding and bolstering this metaverse initiative, although Fortnite has collaborated with Disney brands such as Star Wars and Marvel through in-game events and featured skins.
The relationship between the two companies will now be more official, Disney invested $1.5 billion to acquire an equity stake in Epic. Disney CEO, Robert Iger, went on to describe this new partnership as the first step in creating “a transformational new games and entertainment universe” Disney CEO Iger goes on to say “(investing in Epic Games) marks Disney’s biggest entry ever into the world of gaming and offers significant opportunities for growth and expansion”
Whatever this may mean in the long run, both Disney and Epic Games have much to look forward to with the expansion of Fortnite and its metaverse opportunities while bringing newfound possibilities to the gaming world of Fortnite.
