Microsoft-owned studio, Double Fine, the studio best known for Psychonauts, has multiple new games in development.

Gamers can rejoice as the studio behind Psychonauts, Double Fine, has multiple new games in the works. This is great news, as we haven’t heard much from the studio since the release of Psychonauts 2 back in 2021.

When Psychonauts 2 was released, it was arguably one of the most anticipated gaming sequels. Long-time fans who enjoyed the cult classic game when it was released in 2005 were incredibly overjoyed when the sequel dropped. Psychonauts 2, was able to live up to its predecessor and improve on what the first game did

The Psychonauts series is one of the most loved 3D platforming games, and it’s great to see we will be getting more from its developer. Thanks to the success of Psychonauts 2, Double Fine now has multiple new games in the works based on the comments by Tim Schafer, who is the head of the studio.

In the free making-of documentary, Double Fine PsychOdyssey, that’s currently available on YouTube. Schafer says that the studio had to stop the development of multiple game projects. He then goes into detail about how they were able to develop the game successfully with zero crunch. This would explain the multiple delays during Psychonauts 2’s development.

In the middle of Psychonauts 2’s development cycle, Double Fine got acquired by Microsoft. This acquisition saw them join the likes of Obsidian Entertainment, Playground Games, and Ninja Theory. Yet, despite the acquisition, the studio still stuck to its humble indie roots.

Double Fine has mentioned the names of any of these projects that they are currently developing. We know that they will most likely be great hits, as Tim Schafer has experience that dates back to George Lucas and has worked on titles such as Grim Fandango and Secret of Monkey Island. It would be interesting to see what the studio has in store for us.
