EA Made Fun of Single Player Games and the Surrounding Internet Was not Fond of the Joke

EA got on board with a popular meme, much to everyone’s chagrin (Especially fans of single-player games).

In what seems to be the definition of “Out of touch,” EA decided that posting a joke like this on Twitter would be popular and ultimately a good decision. The company that fans have a complicated relationship with, anyway, decided to join the “They’re a 10 but…” meme trend. It’s a simple enough, funny joke that has been going around the internet for the past few weeks.

However, in a bizarre circumstance, they tweeted this:

They’re a 10 but they only like playing single-player games

— Electronic Arts (@EA) June 30, 2022

This tweet, as mentioned by many, was seen as “tone deaf,” with many citing games that have been developed or are under development from companies under the company’s publishing umbrella. Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, The Sims 4, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order are titles that were produced under EA.

Twitter users include Respawn Entertainment’s Vince Zampella, YouTuber Jacksepticeye, and Voice Actor Allegra Clark, who starred as Josephine in EA’s Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Many others stated how innately idiotic this tweet was with EA themselves in the midst of the development of prominent single-player titles like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor as well as a remake of the single-player Dead Space and Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, not to mention many also cited the recently released Battlefield 2042 was lacking in terms of a single player campaign.

Following the mountain of primarily negative tweets and comments criticizing the entire company for this bizarre choice, they ‘rectified’ the situation by stating this:

Roast well deserved. We’ll take this L cause playing single player games actually makes them an 11. https://t.co/PNg4FKOgfB

— Electronic Arts (@EA) July 1, 2022

This tweet was still lambasted, with many saying the apology came too late and that, realistically, they should have just not tweeted the original in the first place. Many also stated that this response was ‘stolen’ from many who joked that liking single-player games makes them an 11 in the comments. It’s a strange situation and one that the company surely wants to forget about going forward.
