Elden Ring has been out for three weeks and has reached a high level of commercial and critical success.

Elden Ring has very quickly attained it’s popularity, and the sales figures of the game have quite simply dwarfed previous FromSoftware title sales. Now while we live in a world where games may see these numbers and more on massive scales. Games such as Red Dead Redemption 2, Call of Duty and more have been able to reach heights of 20, 30 or 40 million +.

However, when fans consider that the overall lifetime sales of the very first Dark Souls currently sits at 27 million, almost a decade since it’s release, or that in Dark Souls 3’s lifetime of four years, it has attained only 10 million copies sold, it shows truly how popular Elden Ring is. One of the greatest games of all time continues to go up in sales and it doesn’t look like the numbers are going to slow down anytime soon.

In the UK alone Elden Ring was a games biggest launch that was not FIFA or Call of Duty since the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 all the way back in 2018.

Elden Ring’s official twitter account posted this in response to the incredible number:

Director of Elden Ring Hidetaka Miyazaki made this statement:

“I’m very surprised so many people are playing our game. On behalf of the development team. I’d like to express our utmost gratitude to all the players. I’m so happy to know so many are enjoying our world based on George R.R. Martin’s myths, with its high degree of freedom and numerous dangers. I hope you’ll keep supporting Elden Ring”.

In addition to this the president of Bandai Namco Holdings’ digital entertainment business unit Yasuo Miyakawa made a statement claiming that: “In the future, we plan to keep developing Elden Ring so that it reaches various fields, not only games.” Miyakawa uses an interesting turn of phrase, claiming to take the game across ‘various fields’ not just games.

What does this entail? Only time will tell, possibly a tie-in novel or something else just as exciting.
