Fans urged to brace for a long wait as Bethesda focuses on perfecting the next chapter.
Todd Howard, the famous director of the Elder Scrolls series, recently did an interview that made waves in the gaming community. In it, he talked openly about the long-awaited Elder Scrolls 6. There have been whispers and guesses for years, but Howard made it clear that fans will have to wait.
“Preaching patience,” Howard’s words. He made it clear that he doesn’t want fans to be worried because the game is still a long way off. A report revealed some interesting details about how the studio plans to work on future games, but it did not confirm when Elder Scrolls 6 would be released.
A lot of the rumors were about the idea of “surprise releases.” Howard thought about the remake of Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion and said it was like a “test run” for what might be possible with a surprise drop. In the same way, he sparked rumors of a possible remaster for Fallout 3 by joking that hundreds of developers were working on different Fallout projects, such as Fallout 76 and maybe even Fallout 3.
Howard said that his ideal situation is for a game to be dropped out of the blue after a long time of development. Even though it sounds cute in theory, Elder Scrolls 6 is not likely to take that method because of its size and the needs of modern marketing. Xbox and other partners would want an organized release plan to make sure that fans and the media have enough time to prepare.
He also said that marketing efforts are necessary now, not like in the early 2000s when hype often grew on its own. Oblivion itself benefited from all the excitement because leaks and rumors in the gaming community made it impossible for fans to ignore it when it finally came out. Howard said that a similar approach might work for smaller games like a remake of Fallout 3, but not for The Elder Scrolls 6.
Howard’s admission that Elder Scrolls 6 was announced too early was the main thing that came out of the talk. He said, “The game was announced so long ago,” which made it sound like the studio probably didn’t have much more than an idea when the news came out. Bethesda was working on Starfield at the time, so Elder Scrolls 6 was still mostly just an idea.

Announcing a game five years in advance just doesn’t serve anyone anymore.
There are now rumors that the release could happen between 2028 and 2029. Some fans may be annoyed by the long wait, but Howard made it clear: good things take time. The host thought about his own point of view and said that a two-year wait might seem long, but in the world of game creation, two years can be a very long time.
Howard’s comments also touched on an overall trend in the business world of making early announcements. He used Marvel’s Wolverine and Star Wars Eclipse as examples of games that gave away a lot of information about them before they came out, which often made fans tired. Recently, Kingdom Hearts 4 was used as an example of how long marketing times can become more of a hassle than a help.
Elder Scrolls 6 is going to be one of the worst examples of early announcements.
By the time Elder Scrolls 6 comes out, it might have become a bad example of how not to handle reveals. But then again, unlike smaller projects, there is a lot of excitement about Elder Scrolls 6, which means Bethesda has to be very careful not to upset fans. The early announcement and long development time have already made it one of the worst examples of a bad time to share something.
Fans receive a clear message: don’t get too enthusiastic and be ready to wait a long time. Howard’s honesty is both comforting and a warning, even if the next Elder Scrolls game appears to be massive. Even though games are continually evolving, we know for sure that Elder Scrolls 6 will be worth the wait.
