Square Enix confirms 30 FPS, ensuring a smooth classic RPG experience on Nintendo’s next console.

The 2020 Final Fantasy VII Remake brought the story of Cloud and his friends to modern consoles. Now, Square Enix is bringing Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 this winter, giving handheld players a deep dive into Midgar and beyond.

There has been a bit of back-and-forth on performance, specifically regarding frame rates. Some rumors had suggested that the game could run at 40 FPS in handheld mode, based on comments from a Square Enix rep at Gamescom.

The official word from the publisher once and for all put the rumors to bed, as they have announced that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will run at 30 FPS on Switch 2. While some fans might have hoped for more, 30 FPS is still a solid frame rate, especially for a handheld experience.

It’s worth noting that information from demo stations may not always align with official specifications. The 40 FPS chatter was likely just a case of miscommunication at the event. Still, even at 30 FPS, players can expect the very same attention to detail that made the remake such a hit on other platforms.

For now, fans will just have to wait for the release date and prepare to jump back into the world of Final Fantasy VII on the go. Exploring the new content in Intergrade will be fun regardless of the FPS you are playing the game at. The Switch 2 version promises to be a solid addition for both fans and newcomers discovering the magic of Midgar for the first time.
