Sucker Punch is expanding Ghost of Yōtei with a $15 story expansion and the new roguelike Most Wanted mode, bringing Jin Sakai back alongside new weapons, characters, and challenges.
Ghost of Yōtei will receive a major post-launch update on October 1, as Sucker Punch Productions prepares to expand the game. The $15 addition will add a new story chapter and Most Wanted, a roguelike mode that gives players a more replayable way to experience the game’s combat. The update is set to be a big one for fans of Ghost of Tsushima, with Jin Sakai officially back as one of the playable characters.
Jin’s comeback has been one of the most eagerly awaited parts of the expansion. The iconic protagonist of Ghost of Tsushima is said to have new voice lines and has been altered to fit the new fighting and animation mechanics of Ghost of Yotei. Jin is one of four playable characters in Most Wanted and not just a cameo; each character will have their own powers and specialized weaponry to bring to the battlefield.
Most Wanted is a matter of picking bounties and fighting through hordes of enemies, mini-bosses, and tougher confrontations before finally bringing down the target. Players can then gradually increase the complexity of their runs. This progression system fosters experimentation and mastery. Each character has their own basic techniques and a katana, and their special weapons and powers set their playstyles apart.
A perk-based progression system further complements the roguelike framework.
Players can select from a range of perks in each run that will boost their abilities in many areas such as weapon proficiency, gear loadouts, summons, parrying, and survivability. Players should be able to mix these perks and create progressively powerful builds, uncovering surprising combinations with each attempt. Successful runs also give you currency to spend on technique upgrades, weapons, charms, and more character unlocks outside of the sessions.
Cosmetics unlocked in Most Wanted will also transfer to the main game, providing you yet another reason to hang around in the mode even after finishing its core challenges. The $15 addition includes a new story called Echoes of Sagara and Most Wanted. The story focuses on Atsu and ties her current adventure to the fights she fought before the events of Ghost of Yōtei.

The tale shifts between the past and the present, with Atsu's old friend Nagato, a new character, seemingly having an essential part to play in the threats of the present. The expansion will also provide additional combat options, including heavier weaponry. Trailers have shown Atsu carrying what looks like a giant sledgehammer, suggesting you will have new ways to approach enemies.
The footage also previews synchronized wolf attacks and other skills that could provide more variation to the battle system.
The developers at Sucker Punch are notorious for throwing curveballs in their games. Ghost of Tsushima later included Legends, a cooperative multiplayer experience that became a huge part of the game’s identity — even if it wasn’t the reason many players bought the game in the first place. The studio has also dabbled in other content across its past franchises.
This makes Most Wanted really interesting. The story extension is typical narrative fare, but the roguelike mode offers something built on repeated plays and experimentation. With 4 playable characters and dynamic builds, the mode might have a lot more longevity than a simple plot DLC.
