Golden Globes 2025 Nominations Announced: Another Stacked Year in Film and TV

The Golden Globes were announced Monday, and Emilia Pérez leads the pack in the film nominations.

The 82nd annual Golden Globe Awards announced their nominations today. Like every year, there are plenty of snubs, but like last year, there is a new category at the Golden Globes. The new category is for cinematic and box office achievement, so a lot more films are getting nominated that would not usually get a Golden Globe nomination.

Emilia Pérez leads the film nominations at the Golden Globes with 10. The Bear leads for the TV nominations with five. Both Murders in the Building in Shōgun have four, each in the television category, respectively.

It will be an interesting award ceremony, as Selena Gomez and Ariana Grande are both going to be up for the best performance by a female actress in a supporting role in a motion picture. This is interesting because they are both musical artists in their respect.

One surprise is that The Substance was nominated for a couple of awards at the Golden Globes. The Substance might be one of the most brutal films ever made to get nominated for a Golden Globe. It also got nominated in the musical or comedy category, which I found fairly interesting as it is neither. The Substance has its moments of black comedy, but that’s not the theme. The theme is horror. I believe it’s time for the Golden Globes and Oscars to have a category for horror/thriller films. Seeing as The Substance is put in an unfit category, it seems.

I was glad to see Challengers get a couple of nominations. It definitely had the best soundtrack of the year, with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross creating a pulsing, incredible score. I am definitely hoping they at least win the best score award, as it was also a very popular, listened-to score on streaming.

On the television side of things, I was happy to see The Penguin getting multiple nominations. It should be a shoo-in to win all of the categories it is in. At the very least, the two leads in the show, Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti, deserve to win best actor and actress. Both of them put in acting, which will be studied for a long time. Also, people are still talking about how incredible their performances were, and it shook the very ground of television.

The 82nd Golden Globes will be on January 5, 2025, at 8:00 PM EST.
