GTA 6 at 60fps on PS5 Pro: Sony’s Plan to Bank Rockstar

PlayStation engineers and Rockstar are working together behind the scenes to unlock GTA 6’s full potential. Are Sony’s marketing moves changing the way people play next-gen games?

In the world of gaming leaks and rumors, Grand Theft Auto is one of the most talked-about names. And now, reports have come out that GTA 6 might run at a smooth 60fps —only on the PS5 Pro—thanks to an unexpected powerhouse duo: Sony and Rockstar. This could change the game in a big way.

Sources indicate that Sony engineers are collaborating directly with Rockstar Games to optimize GTA 6 for better performance on the PS5 Pro. What is the goal? Getting to that hard-to-reach 60fps sweet spot that gamers dream of. A user named “Detective Seeds” posted this information, which has been shared a lot. They say that the optimization process is going well and that the current internal builds of GTA 6 are already reaching 60fps on the PS5 Pro at different graphical settings.

This claim isn’t completely crazy. The second trailer for GTA 6 showed off gameplay at 30fps on a standard PS5. The footage was beautiful, but the performance benchmark left a lot of fans wanting more, especially since hardware keeps getting better. The PS5 Pro is expected to come out next year, and there are rumors that it will come with an improved version of Sony’s upscaling technology, PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution). This partnership makes sense both technically and strategically.

Sources say that the reported optimization is the result of a marketing deal between PlayStation and Rockstar. There are signs of an agreement everywhere, even though an official announcement hasn’t been made yet. The fact that the GTA 6 trailer was filmed on a PS5 instead of an Xbox is a big clue. Sony and Rockstar have had a good relationship in the past, except for a few timed Xbox 360 exclusives. This makes the rumors about this deal even more believable.

The partnership could lead to more than just improvements. You might see GTA 6 bundles that are only available on PlayStation, along with a significant marketing push, as the launch season approaches. Detective Seeds isn’t always 100% accurate (he incorrectly reported that the rumored Gears of War collection wouldn’t have multiplayer, which turned out to be wrong), but he has a good track record and claims this information comes from a PlayStation engineer with a history of reliable leaks.

Reports indicate that the improved PSSR upscaler, which is the PS5 Pro’s secret weapon, is one of the primary technologies being utilized in this optimization. Mark Cerny, a system architect at Sony, first talked about this upscaling technology. It is expected to improve performance in future AAA games, and it appears that Rockstar will be one of the first to utilize it. If this is true, Sony would be ahead in the race for next-gen performance. For a game as big as GTA 6, that would be a huge advantage.

Of course, it’s good to be skeptical in the gaming world. It’s exciting to think about playing GTA 6 at 60fps, but sources indicate that nothing is confirmed until it’s officially announced. Game builds change all the time during development, so what runs at 60fps in July might not be the same on launch day. But one thing is sure: if Rockstar and Sony can pull this off, it will be a technical and marketing genius move.

Although there hasn’t been an official announcement, industry professionals agree that an optimization effort is likely, especially given the size of GTA 6. Sony appears to want to ensure that the PS5 Pro is the best platform for playing the game, as they expect it to break every sales record upon its release. With the console race intensifying over the last few years, securing exclusive performance benefits for a major game like GTA 6 would be a significant win.

In the grand scheme of things, this partnership could mean that platform holders will start to help third-party developers differently. Console engineers may start providing direct technical support to ensure that high-stakes releases perform optimally. If Sony is indeed sticking with this plan involving Rockstar, other developers and competitors may soon follow suit.

Still, fans should keep their hopes in check until more reliable information becomes available. Although 60fps sounds great, it’s best to wait for official confirmation instead of getting too excited based on rumors. If these rumors are true, though, the PS5 Pro could be the best place for the next generation of open-world chaos. So, here’s a question that might keep fans up at night: When you start up GTA 6 on the PS5 Pro, will the streets of Vice City feel smoother than ever? Or will it all be a bunch of lies and tricks until Rockstar says it’s true?
