With the release date less than three weeks away, here's a full look at the gameplay modes, real-world promotion, pre-order records, and trailer changes that surfaced this week.
It was a busy week for Grand Theft Auto VI, and plenty of it is easy to miss if you weren't checking the news every day. There was talk of multiple gameplay modes, another version of the launch trailer, and a wave of real-world promotion that keeps getting bigger.
Here's a full rundown of what happened, starting with how the game might run on your console. GTA 6 may launch with two display options, something the studio has already offered in recent releases like Red Dead Redemption 2 and the enhanced version of Grand Theft Auto V.
Those options are Performance Mode and Fidelity Mode. If you haven't come across them before, Performance Mode favors a higher frame rate, usually around 60 frames per second, which makes movement look smoother. Fidelity Mode goes the other way and pushes image quality, with higher resolution, denser foliage, sharper shadows and, in most cases, ray tracing.
The downside is that it normally runs at around 30 frames per second. Don't count on 60 frames per second from GTA 6 on consoles, at least not on day one. If a performance setting does exist, though, it could land somewhere around 40 or 45 frames per second instead of 30, which would still be a noticeable step up.
The talk comes from two gameplay leaks. Footage from an older one that surfaced in 2023, and didn't get much attention, showed Performance Mode. A more recent leak from this year showed Fidelity Mode. Neither confirms what the final game will offer, but together they point toward a two-setting setup, and the same options have reportedly turned up in some of the latest builds.

A higher frame rate beats visual polish once you've played at 60.
If you've gone back to Grand Theft Auto V, Red Dead Redemption 2 or other games lately, you probably know how hard it is to return to 30 frames per second once you've settled into 60. Even if GTA 6 can't reach that number at launch, a higher frame rate is worth giving up a bit of visual polish for.
It's a bit like the PlayStation 5 versus XBOX Series X/S debate, where everyone has a firm opinion and nobody budges. The studio's real-world promotion kept growing too, and much of it is centered on Miami, the city Vice City is based on. The standout is a physical version of the Vice City sign from the first trailer.
It also appears in the official screenshots, where the sign stands just outside Vice City International Airport in big, bold white lettering. Photos from a photographer show that same sign going up along the MacArthur Causeway, where tens of thousands of drivers will pass it every day.
It looks identical to the one in the trailer and the screenshots. The design is simple, but it has been familiar to fans for years, going back to 2023 when the game first got its trailer, and that's why it works so well. Speaking of that first trailer, it has now passed 300 million views on YouTube.
It made history when it debuted, pulling in more than 93 million views in its first 24 hours, the most ever for a non-music video debut on the platform.
Rockstar Games has also customized the Cadillac that usually sits outside Ocean Drive, the one with Tony Montana from Scarface in the driver's seat. It now carries the colors and logos of Vice City and GTA 6, including pink pinstripes and a license plate that shows a Leonida flamingo along with the slogan "The Good Time State."
With Halloween in the past month, a few skeletons have been added to the scene too. It's hard to name a part of Miami the studio hasn't touched yet. Banana boats on the beach have game branding on them, and so do the golf carts that security guards drive.

A Grand Theft Auto VI-inspired cocktail is also being served at select venues across Miami, and the promotion appears to be a collaboration with the studio. It's called the Vice Beach Margarita, a spin on the classic that uses white rum instead of tequila, which gives it a tropical feel that fits the game's setting.
It's also a reminder of how much of this promotion people in and around the city get to see in person. Marketing is now appearing around the world as well, in places like London, Brazil and Portugal. GTA 6 is set to be a global release, and although the main language is English, players in many countries will be picking it up.
That's why the studio is promoting it locally, whether people speak Spanish, Portuguese, French, German or another language.
Fresh estimates tracking sales and pre-orders say Grand Theft Auto VI picked up roughly 470,000 more pre-orders over the past week. That lifts the total to about 6.92 million with around three weeks to go. The platform split hasn't changed, and it still sits at 74% PlayStation and 26% XBOX. The same data shows GTA 6 has been pre-ordered 148% more than any other game.
Between 149 days and 45 days before launch, it sold 148% more copies through pre-orders than 2022's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. That game is one of the bestselling titles of the past six years and held the pre-order record before this one, so the gap is massive.
The numbers also show how popular the Ultimate Edition is. It isn't far behind the standard version and sits 100% above Modern Warfare II. Both versions dwarf other major releases like Diablo IV, Hogwarts Legacy, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and The Last of Us Part II. Those games all posted strong pre-order numbers, but they look small next to this one.
Release day is also showing up in work calendars. A report from HR software company BambooHR says GTA 6 is behind a 17% spike in time-off requests for its release date. Requests for November 19 rose from 9% to 17% compared with what's normal for the third Thursday in November. Many players are planning ahead, whether that means using paid time off, skipping school or other responsibilities, or waiting until the weekend to play.

A separate study points the same way.
It surveyed 1,000 British employees chosen for their interest in video games and estimates that 2.56 million workers will be absent on November 19, 2026. Among them, 26% say they'll talk about GTA 6 with colleagues on release day, 21% expect to be tired the next day after playing late, 17% could shift their schedules, and 16% anticipate a drop in productivity. When it comes to time off, 17% want a paid day off and 14% plan to take an unpaid one.
The game has also recorded the highest purchase intent in history, according to Circana, a research company that tracks video game sales and consumer trends. Its findings show that 29% of U.S. console and PC players plan to buy GTA 6, which works out to about one in three players.
Some might expect that number to be higher, but it's still a huge amount of people, and it's one more record to add to the list. The game keeps breaking them left, right and center. Rockstar Games has also uploaded another version of the launch trailer. This one is identical to the TV spot, a modified cut of the one-minute trailer that drops some scenes, including two of the three shower scenes with Jason and Lucia.
Oddly enough, it was posted by the studio on X across all regions as an advertisement for the game. The square format used for social media forced a few small changes at the end, mainly in the placement of the text and logos. The Japanese version also comes with its own logo, with Japanese text placed under the title. It most likely translates to the game's name, though that isn't confirmed.
If you've been on social media over the last couple of days and noticed a square version of the launch trailer, it came straight from Rockstar Games. That wraps up the week. With the release date less than three weeks out, expect more promotion, more data and more records before GTA 6 arrives on November 19.
