Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 cannot catch a break from turning characters into cubes just because they wore a different outfit.

Last month, when Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launched, players were quite happy to see the changes made to the game. A solid continuation of the story, with a bigger map, more missions to go through, and different outfits to try. Outfit addition was received well as people could change the looks of Spider-Man however they liked, but it came with a cost. Some outfits were glitched, and they turned the character models into a small, white cube. Players could still move and fight enemies even as a white cube, so it led to people recording funny gameplay of it as a result.

An easy explanation would be the game trying to draw a selected outfit from the game’s files. The requested file might be named differently, or the request to bring a suit could not be coded well enough, so it returned a white, placeholder cube that was supposed to appear when the file was missing. The bug was discovered a week into the game when people progressed through the story and started unlocking alternative suits. Insomniac, the game’s developer, was quick to fix the issue; however, they seem to have missed a few steps.

Despite being fixed, a user of Insomniac’s Spider-Man subreddit encountered the bug once again. All they did was choose the Kumo suit for both Miles and Peter to trigger it. Now, if you were to try equipping the Kumo suit, it would most likely not work, since we do not know which steps the user followed to trigger this glitch; there is a possibility of someone else encountering it, albeit without them knowing that they followed the steps in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Our suggestion is just to keep the cube as a bonus if it keeps happening, or basically turn it into a cheat from the good old days when people used cheats to play as other characters. The old cheats were quite fun as they focused more on the fun side rather than letting players become indestructible or straight out win the game. If the cube does not return as a cheat, then we can safely say the modders will eventually add a mod that turns both Peter and Miles into the cube in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, thanks to mod support on the PC platform.
