Any information on Mass Effect 4 is speculation, as the game’s plot and characters have been hinted at rather than confirmed.
Bioware has recently begun selling new N7 day lithographs containing the famous image released last year. This may not have been much news. BioWare adds new gear to its store all the time, so why is this one so special? Well, as YouTuber MrHulthen noticed, quite a lot, it seems.
The product description for the item has undergone various changes since this video, but the first product description stated this: “Shepard’s final quest may have ended the threat of the reapers at great cost including Earth itself. While Shepard and the survivors are left to pick up the pieces, fans are left wondering what’s next.”
Following this information, the product description changed to read: “The threat of the Reapers might have been ended, but at great cost, including Earth itself. While the survivors are left to pick up the pieces, fans are left wondering what’s next.”
Now, this could be nothing but a minor issue in the description that has been rectified. However, with the Mass Effect 4 trailer showing off our old friend Liara T’soni, it seems Mass Effect 4 is going to contain many of the great characters we had once seen in the trilogy, including the protagonist, Commander Shepard.
This is obviously all just speculation, but the product description went on to mention the Geth-looking crater, the squad exiting the ship, and more. All of these have since been deleted from the description entirely, leaving it bare bones with no details whatsoever.
Now, once again, this could quite literally mean absolutely nothing. Mass Effect 4 is a way off, and fans are very eager to see what comes in the next chapter. Perhaps this is just grasping at straws. However, considering what we know about the timeline of Mass Effect and how Liara is present, and the N7 armour logo found in the Mass Effect 4 teaser. There is a chance that fans will be reunited with Commander Shepard.
How do you feel about Shepard’s potential return? Are you excited? Annoyed? Tell us down in the comments below.

*Update (12/05/2022):
New information has come to light regarding this. Rumours are all too common in the games industry, and it seems this is the most recent one. However, to quell the consistent deluge of theorising and hype, Michael Gamble, the creative director behind the next Mass Effect project,t had this to say:
He claims that the product description was a mistake that has to be fixed, and now many fans are either disappointed, elated, or confused. It seems that the reaction is a huge mixed bag. Gamble further stated this on Twitter following more prompted questions:
This could be considered a huge debunking of the theory, but whether that is true or not remains unclear. Gamble obviously never states that Shepard will or will not appear, but does mention that the product description was a clear mistake.
The likelihood of Shepard appearing in the next installment of Mass Effect remains unclear, but fans are still awaiting more juicy information to accompany one of the most famous and influential franchises in the games industry. BioWare is currently under a lot of pressure as they are working on both the next Mass Effect and the next Dragon Age, and I, for one, could not be more excited for the return of these franchises.
