Netflix Has Announced They Are Building Their Own Internal Game Studio

This new studio in Helsinki, Finland, will be an internal studio under Netflix.

Netflix-making games are still a very bizarre concept for many people. Even as late as this year, people were astounded that the service has sneakily dropped, allowing players access to hundreds of Netflix-based mobile games. However, for the most part, Netflix has been working with third-party studios to create unique games for its service. Earlier this year, Netflix acquired the mobile game company Next Games, which was the first step in a major shift for their business.

However, the company has yet to create its own in-house company. That is about to change. In a recent post on Netflix’s official page, we heard that they are building an internal games studio based in Helsinki, Finland. In this statement, it was mentioned that “this is another step in our vision to build a world-class games studio that will bring a variety of delightful and deeply engaging original games, with no ads and no in-app purchases, to our hundreds of millions of members around the world.”

They went on to further state that Helsinki specifically “is home to some of the best game talent in the world. This will be a games studio that we build from scratch.” This brand-new studio will also be headed by Zynga’s very own Marko Lastikka, which shows how serious Netflix is.

The final part of the statement said that Netflix is “proud to see how we’re steadily building the foundation of our games studios in our first year, and look forward to sharing what we produce in the coming years.” What do you think about this studio being created in Finland? Are you going to check out any of the games these companies make? Comment your thoughts down below.
