A24 recently bought The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in a bidding war; now a TV show and a movie are in the works.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is coming to TV for the first time. A24 now owns the property, which was recently the subject of a bidding war among several companies. It seems they’re going the route Friday the 13th is taking with a TV show.
With A24 making it, it’s going to be a lot more serious and well filmed than films in the past, I’m sure. I’m excited they bought it because they seem more artistic than many other companies. They also give young directors a chance. I think we definitely need a fresh take on The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, as there hasn’t really been a good movie in that series in a while.
JT Mollner will direct the Texas Chainsaw Massacre television show.
He recently directed The Long Walk. There isn’t really any information about what the story will be, but it does seem they will not be remaking the original film. I think this is the best. It’s time for them to try something fresh and do something different.
The first film is one of the best horror films of the 70s and really created a genre of movies in and of itself. A24 has a chance to do something special and find a way to turn a classic horror franchise into an incredible TV show.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre also doesn’t really need a super heavy plot, so they can kind of add in whatever they want with the story. It shouldn’t be really hard to adapt the story, but they’ll definitely make it their own. Some up-and-coming actors and actresses could also help if they can be tied to the project sooner rather than later.
