More than 40 games, major Switch 2 upgrades, and long-awaited franchise returns took center stage in Nintendo’s latest showcase.
Nintendo’s newest Direct felt less like a presentation and more like a game-packed roller coaster. In just over 50 minutes, the company rolled out more than 40 announcements, mixing fresh reveals, release dates, surprise ports, and Switch 2 upgrades into one of its busiest showcases in recent memory.
According to the sources, the event kicked off with Rhythm Heaven Groove, bringing the quirky rhythm series back with new multiplayer features and gameplay twists. It was an unexpected opener, but it quickly set the tone for a presentation that rarely slowed down.
Capcom was one of the biggest supporters during the show. Onimusha: Way of the Sword was confirmed for Switch 2 with a September 25 release, while Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is heading to the platform on October 9. Fans were also surprised to see Stellar Blade make the jump to Nintendo hardware, with the former PlayStation-exclusive now planned for Switch 2 in 2026.
Co-op fans had something to celebrate as well. Orbitals received a September 3 release date, offering a colorful multiplayer adventure that appears designed for playing together with friends and family. Elsewhere, Rayman Legends Retold, Big Walk, and a surprisingly charming One Piece management game helped add variety to the lineup.

The biggest focus of the Direct, however, was clearly role-playing games.
Nintendo unveiled Fire Emblem: Fortunes Weave, a new strategy RPG featuring multiple heroes, separate story paths, and plenty of character-building opportunities. The game arrives on September 17, but much of the conversation quickly shifted to its price.
The physical version will cost $80, while the digital edition is set at $70, making it one of Nintendo’s pricier releases. Then came a huge moment for Xenoblade fans. Nintendo confirmed enhanced Switch 2 versions of Xenoblade Chronicles 1, 2, and 3, complete with visual improvements and new content.
As if that wasn't enough, Monolith Soft closed the segment by revealing Xenoblade Genesis, a brand-new entry in the series scheduled for 2027. At that point, one question started floating around among viewers: was this Direct secretly designed for RPG fans?
The answer certainly felt like yes. Final Fantasy Resonance impressed with its beautiful HD-2D art style, while Dragon Quest Monsters: Withered World, Metaphor: ReFantazio, and RuneScape: Dragonwilds all secured their place in the growing Switch 2 lineup.
Nintendo also made room for lighter experiences. Nintendo Switch Sports Resort was announced with a collection of motion-controlled activities including boxing, basketball, archery, golf, and even thumb wrestling. The game launches on October 22 and looks set to continue Nintendo’s tradition of family-friendly multiplayer fun.

One of the loudest cheers online came from Kingdom Hearts fans.
After years of cloud-only releases on Nintendo platforms, native Switch 2 versions of the series are finally on the way. Better yet, Kingdom Hearts 4 was confirmed for the console, giving fans another reason to keep an eye on the platform’s future.
The rapid-fire showcase also included appearances from Space Marine 2, Metal Gear Master Collection Vol. 2, Tales of Eternia Remastered, Final Fantasy XIV, Observer: System Redux, and several other titles packed into a lengthy highlight reel.
By the time the presentation wrapped up, it was clear Nintendo had plenty to show. The Direct may not have delivered brand-new Mario or Zelda adventures, something many fans were hoping to see, but it offered a strong look at the growing support behind Switch 2.
For RPG players especially, it felt like a feast. For everyone else, it was still a reminder that Nintendo’s next-generation lineup is quickly taking shape. And with one final mystery reveal still generating buzz, could the biggest surprise from the Direct be the one people are talking about the most?
