The changes for Payday 3 are explained in detail with the regularly scheduled streams of Starbreeze Studios on Twitch.
Payday 3 has been available for a week, and Starbreeze Studios had a roundup for the title in a recent stream over Twitch. During the week of the release, the studio has been encountering issues related to servers and the game itself, unfortunately, this was mirrored on the game’s Steam page with mostly negative reviews and unsatisfied people who were expecting a lot more from Payday 3.
Starbreeze actually shut down the servers for maintenance last Friday and they are expected to go for more maintenance in the future. In their Twitch stream, they explained the problem was caused by the server provider, which went with a third-party solution instead of setting up servers on their own, like for the first two games. The issue happened after the heavy load and the provider forwarded the problem that could not be reverted on their end, and it led to much confusion and barely any matchmaking at all.
These problems have been addressed by Starbreeze of course, and they are planning to make the gameplay experience better for the players. In fact, after the maintenance last Friday, the servers were being handled better, and positive feedback followed soon after, however, there are more technical difficulties that Starbreeze has to go through.
Through the stream, Payday developers stated that the provider can be hard to negotiate and they might end up setting up their servers again instead. It seems like despite the problems having slightly vanished, Starbreeze might change their decision if the issues persist.
One of the baffling changes of Payday 3 was the change from being able to play it offline and run through heists solo to waiting in a queue for matchmaking. Since Payday 3 is completely an online game it needs an internet connection to be played. Combined with long wait times and empty lobbies, it is clear why they could not let players explore the new heists and playstyles. No worries though, players can expect some changes in positive ways in the future nevertheless.
