The aquisition of these developers show PlayStations dedication to mobile game development.

It seems more and more game studios are being gobbled up by the bigger brands, and this next acquisition is no different. PlayStation has acquired mobile game developer Savage Games Studios. Now, while this acquisition may not be as earth-shattering as their acquisition of Bungie earlier in the year, it still portrays the attitude that the company has and the direction they are heading in.

The official PlayStation Twitter stated this:

Then on the official PlayStation blog, a few more details surrounding the purpose behind the acquisition were given. One of the primary reasons given by the company is that with the success of their PC ports, they wish their mobile titles to be “similarly additive.”

Savage Games Studios also made a statement on the official blog stating: “We made this deal because we believe that PlayStation Studios’ leadership respects our vision for how we can best operate and succeed, and because they too are not afraid to take chances”. They also stated that on top of “All of that, plus the ability to potentially tap into PlayStation’s amazing catalog of IP and the fact that we will benefit from the kind of support that only they can provide… The harder question to answer would be “why not?”
Ultimately, picking up this studio seems to be massively mutually beneficial and will undoubtedly increase the company’s mobile gaming brand. What do you think of this acquisition? Are you excited about what kind of games may erupt from this? Comment your thoughts down below.
