PlayStation Pipeline Rumor Hints at Wolverine and Venom Timelines

New reports suggest Insomniac Games’ Wolverine is targeting a 2026 release, while Venom could be years away.

A new report has revealed more about PlayStation’s future first-party games, focusing on games being made at Insomniac Games. The company, which is already known for big hits like Marvel’s Spider-Man, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, is said to have planned out its next big wave of superhero adventures.

New reports say that Wolverine is still on track for a 2026 release date, which fits with the idea that it will be one of PlayStation’s biggest exclusives that year. Since it was first shown at a PlayStation Showcase in 2021, the game has mostly been kept secret, which has led to a lot of talk about its tone, setting, and gameplay direction. Many fans are looking forward to a darker, more mature take than Insomniac’s Spider-Man games, with fighting relying on Wolverine’s powerful claws and ability to heal himself.

Besides that, a different project starring Venom is also being worked on, though reports say it is still in its early stages, maybe even pre-production. This means we will have to wait a lot longer. The release date is thought to be sometime between 2027 and 2028. Even though this may come as a surprise, especially since Venom was a fan favorite in Spider-Man 2, it looks like Insomniac is putting Wolverine first before giving the symbiote his own story.

This plan of releasing games at different times fits with Sony’s overall approach. The company has said in the past that it would release at least one big first-party game every year, but many fans say that’s too low an aim given PlayStation’s good track record. Still, if Wolverine leads 2026 and Venom follows in the years that follow, Sony will have a steady stream of big-name exclusives well into the future.

There are also more and more rumors that Wolverine might be shown again soon, or even later this year. If Sony adheres to its traditional marketing plan, the game will likely receive a cinematic trailer first, followed by more in-depth gameplay demos and creator breakdowns in 2025. This is similar to how Sony handled games like Ghost of Yōtei earlier this year. Fans were kept interested with small details before the game came out.

Insomniac is now one of the most important studios working on PlayStation games, thanks to this report. The California-based team joined PlayStation Studios in 2019 and has since made several critically acclaimed and commercially successful games, solidifying its position as the creative force behind some of Sony’s most popular exclusives. Being in charge of both Spider-Man and Wolverine means that the company is creating a Marvel-inspired world that is only available to PlayStation users.

According to the timeline, Wolverine could very well be the game that defines the last few years of the PlayStation 5. It would provide fans with a gritty, character-driven superhero journey to complement Spider-Man’s more open-world, web-slinging style. Even though Venom might not come out for years, the excitement surrounding the symbiote’s final solo game shows that Insomniac’s work with Marvel is still going strong.
