Despite the Xbox Game Pass launch, PlayStation players still value Expedition 33 ownership, even in the age of subscriptions.
Despite launching day one on Xbox Game Pass, Expedition 33 is seeing impressive sales on PlayStation 5. The buzz surrounding its Game of the Year potential hasn’t stopped players from shelling out full price for the RPG—especially on Sony’s platform.
Data from analytics firm Aier, shared by Push Square, shows that 30% of the game’s players are on PS5, with 45% on Xbox Series consoles and 25% on PC. These numbers reflect major markets like Europe, the U.S., Canada, and Australia, with Asian territories not yet included.
What’s even more telling is how long players stay engaged. On average, PS5 owners are spending 4.4 hours in-game, compared to just 2.2 hours on Xbox. While a larger player base can skew averages downward, the stats hint that those who purchase the game outright are more committed to playing it through.
Even in the age of subscription gaming, Expedition 33 proves that many players still value ownership—whether digital or physical. Instead of taking advantage of a low-cost trial through Game Pass, plenty of gamers are choosing to buy the game outright on platforms like PS5 and Steam.
As the title gains momentum and award buzz continues to grow, its strong cross-platform performance highlights a simple truth: for many gamers, owning a game still means more than borrowing it.
