Literary Cipher Game Prose & Codes has made its debut on Steam & Itch.io on February 11. It’s a sleek and soothing creative cipher game that offers a remarkable 350 coded excerpts from classic novels. Prose & Codes is both developed and published by Hero Game, and it’s their second indie game released so far. The game is now available on Steam and itch.io, according to the maker.
In Prose & Codes, gamers get to decipher excerpts from many popular pieces of literature, and once deciphered, they can download the literature in the form of a PDF and other supportive formats. The literature from the game will remind gamers of their childhood tales, both nostalgic and scary ones. Every tale published on the game includes spoiler-free synopses as well as direct links to free e-books from Project Gutenberg.
“Every single excerpt was hand-selected,” said Rachel Reed, one-half of the husband-and-wife duo at Hero Game Co. “We hope that at least one will pique the interest of each player, leading them to discover–or rediscover–a treasure trove of public domain literature.”
As mentioned earlier, Prose & Codes lets you decipher 350 ciphers culled from a variety of pieces of literature. There are seven exciting genres to pick from, the sci-fi, mystery, and more, and presented with antique drawings as background art and soothing piano music. An online library of over 60,000 free e-books called Project Gutenberg will receive a share of every copy of the game being sold.
