Sony introduces DualSense multi-device support and a new energy-saving feature, hinting at future hardware possibilities.
The most recent software update for the PlayStation 5 is now available. It introduces two significant new features that players can explore. Sony has released an update for the DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers, which many users have requested. Users can now connect one controller to up to four different devices without having to use a cable again with the new software.
To do this, turn off the remote and simultaneously hold down the PS button and one of the face buttons. Each button is given to a different device slot. The PS5 is assigned to the triangle button by default. For instance, if you hold down the PS button and the circle, the controller will pair with a second device, like a phone. To indicate which device slot is active, the light bar and user indicator LEDs will blink in the correct sequence.
It’s easy to switch between devices once everything is set up. For about three seconds, hold down the PS button with the given face button. Then, you can quickly switch between your PS5, phone, Mac, or another registered device.
The second feature is a brand-new power saver mode, accessible in the system power save settings. Currently, no games support the feature; however, Sony has stated on the PlayStation Blog that Demon’s Souls, Death Stranding 2, and Ghost of Yōtei will be among the first games to add it through future updates.

By slowing down games, this method aims to reduce the console’s power consumption. That most likely means giving up things like frame rate or dynamic resolution. PS5 games typically consume between 200 and 300 watts of power while in use, whereas PS4 games generally use around 100 watts. With the new setting, PS5 games that have been optimized will be able to run with reduced power consumption.
There is already considerable speculation that this update is related to plans for future hardware. Industry reports indicate that Sony is developing a new portable PlayStation system capable of playing PS5 games locally. The update is expected to be released around the end of 2027.
