Rumors suggest Capcom is skipping RE5 for now, targeting cult classics for 2027–2028 releases.
Capcom has already taken the gaming industry over with the Resident Evil 9 Gamescom reveal, and the future of the series looks as scary as ever, and not just because of the next major game. A new report says that Resident Evil Code Veronica and Resident Evil Zero are Capcom’s next two remake projects. They are expected to come out in 2027 and 2028, respectively.
There are a few things that make this move strange. Many people thought that Resident Evil 5 would be the next obvious step after the huge success of Resident Evil 4 Remake. That game can still be played on modern systems, but it didn’t get as much attention as RE4. This may have led Capcom to take a different road, one that was based on fan nostalgia.
Resident Evil Code Veronica makes a lot of sense; it’s a cult classic that fans have liked for a long time and have been asking for many times, but it has never been updated. The surprise is Resident Evil Zero, though. A lot of people thought that the prequel would be remade before the first Resident Evil. Fans will still enjoy more survival horror movies if they are remade.

Some people are worried about the fact that the Resident Evil 3 version team is said to be leading the Zero version. RE3 Remake wasn’t a bad game, but it got a lot of bad reviews because it left out important parts of the original game. Fans hope that the team has learned from the response and will stick to or even add to the original story this time.
For now, these plans are just rumors, but if they turn out to be true, Capcom might spend a lot of time on its older games over the next few years instead of just moving forward with its newer series.
