Despite Public Promises, Insider Report Reveals Rockstar Quietly Expected GTA VI Delay Long Before Announcement.
Rockstar Games has officially delayed Grand Theft Auto VI, moving its release date from fall 2025 to May 26, 2026. While fans are disappointed, many aren’t surprised, given Rockstar’s history of delays.
What’s catching people off guard, though, is the news that this delay wasn’t sudden—people inside the company reportedly saw it coming for a long time.
Even though Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick kept saying the game was “on track” for 2025, a new report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier says otherwise. According to Schreier’s sources at Rockstar, the team never believed the original release date was possible, and they had known that for a while.
This situation raises questions about how honest game publishers are about release dates. Rockstar has done this before—both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 were delayed before launch—so this is starting to feel like a familiar pattern.
With the new date now out in the open, some fans are already guessing the game might get delayed again, possibly to late 2026. While nothing more has been confirmed, it’s a reminder of how delays in big game projects are not only common—but sometimes expected long before they’re shared with the public.
