New Rumors emerge, suggesting that Spyro 4 is in the works and will be announced soon.
Out of all iconic video game characters to be making headlines, the last one you would expect to see is the purple dragon himself. According to recent rumors that have surfaced online, a new Spyro game, dubbed Spyro 4: Mystery of the Dragon, is in the works. These rumors come only a few days after an old canceled crossover game surfaced online.
Spyro is considered an iconic gaming character, rising to huge popularity during the late 90s and early 2000s. The original Spyro 3D platforming trilogy is considered a classic of the genre, but despite the success of the original games, later installments failed to reach the same level of success. However, many years later, the Spyro brand did see itself get a bit of a facelift with the toys-to-life Skylanders franchise. While the Skylanders game was incredibly popular, the gimmick soon overstayed its welcome, and the franchise, along with Spyro, would go dormant until the release of the Spyro Reignited Trilogy in 2018, which remade the original Spyro trilogy with improved graphics and gameplay.
The success of the Spyro Reignited Trilogy would make Activision revisit another one of their older IPs, that being Crash Bandicoot, which would also receive the remake treatment with the Crash N. Sane Trilogy, which would later be followed up by Crash Bandicoot 4. Since Crash Bandicoot was lucky enough to receive another entry, many longtime Spyro fans have been wondering if the purple dragon would receive the same treatment. All hope for another Spyro game was dashed once Toys for Bob was assigned to assist Activision’s Call of Duty franchise. However, if a recent rumor is to be believed, things might be looking up for the pint-sized firebreather with a rumored Spyro 4 being in the works.
On a post that was recently shared on Reddit, it was rumored that another Spyro game is in the works, under the name Spyro 4: Mystery of the Dragon. This rumor was shared on the Gaming Leaks and Rumors subreddit, where the anonymous poster then goes on to say that we can expect a trailer to drop soon, very soon. The redditor says that we can expect to see a trailer as early as 5 October 2023. As with all rumors, this should be taken with a sensible grain of salt.
