Splitgate 2’s monetization overhaul after backlash….
Splitgate 2, which started a few weeks ago, has formally reverted to Beta. Developer 1047 Games said they are suspending most ideas for the game and concentrating on a comprehensive refurbishment; a new release is now set for early 2026.
Following intense criticism from players regarding the state of the game, this abrupt move comes. Just a few of the problems causing criticism soon after launch were bugs, missing ranked modes, overpriced skins, and hurried features. In a declaration, CEO Ian Proulx acknowledged, “We missed the mark. We launched too early”.
Rather than continuing with unfinished components, the team is now stepping back to repair the essential experience. That calls for going over gameplay approaches, reducing too many innovative concepts, and reconstructing depending on player input. Proulx said they will be more open this time around, with playtests, direct community engagement, and no more surprises like the formerly secret Battle Royale mode.
Regarding what comes next, the dev team intends to bring back that old Splitgate atmosphere. Upcoming changes are leaderboards ranked, dedicated musical playlists, extended mechanics for portal walls, and a return to easier, quicker, non-round-based game styles.
The revenue model is also undergoing a complete restart. Having seen the game’s $80 skin bundle slammed by the public, the team admitted they went too far. How makeup is priced and distributed is going to change going forward.

The company is also going through internal changes. Regrettably, 1047 Games announced another round of layoffs, but they have not disclosed the total number of jobs being impacted. Moreover, the first Splitgate servers will shut down next month. They are, meanwhile, looking at offline and peer-to-peer alternatives so supporters can still play somehow.
This is not the first time Splitgate has struggled. Beginning gently, the original game found success in 2021 after a surprising return. The studio has changed directions more than once since then in an effort to strike the ideal equilibrium between invention and what fans first adored.
Splitgate 2 will, for the time being, stay online in a reduced capacity. Small events and bug fixes will keep going even into Season 3. According to the studio, however, 95% of the team is presently entirely concentrated on the 2026 relaunch, or sooner should circumstances permit.
The developers obviously want this reset to be worthwhile. Following a shaky beginning, the aim is now to restore Splitgate 2 to be more robust, more sophisticated, and more in sync with the neighborhood still present.
