Shareholder Q&A fuels speculation as the publisher says a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the acclaimed RPG is "not entirely impossible."
Following a recent shareholder Q&A with Square Enix, a new rumor has arisen about a possible Nintendo Switch 2 release of Final Fantasy XV. The publisher has not confirmed any plans, but their reaction has given Nintendo fans hope that another major chapter in the long-running RPG will come to the company’s next-generation machine.
"We do have hardware limitations when it comes to faithfully recreating the original experience," Square Enix said when questioned about bringing Final Fantasy XV to the Nintendo Switch 2. But the corporation said such a release is “not entirely impossible,” implying it is still under consideration rather than completely ruled out.
The publisher also added that the shareholder’s response would be sent to its development team as useful feedback for future marketing tactics and platform decisions.
While this is a far cry from an official declaration, many fans have taken the phrasing as a promising hint that the game could someday be released on Nintendo's newest hardware. The comments are especially interesting given the excellent reception to recent Final Fantasy releases on Switch 2. Final Fantasy VII is selling well, and the platform is also doing well, leading many to believe that Square Enix has more reason to expand its support for Nintendo’s newest console.
A Switch 2 port of Final Fantasy XV would also bring one of the franchise’s best-selling installments to a whole new audience. The game received mixed reviews upon release but has maintained a large audience and remains one of the most commercially successful games in the series, with the highest number of copies sold.

Since its initial release, Final Fantasy XV has been greatly improved with expansions, post-launch patches, and more content. Those additions rendered many of the early concerns moot and refined the overall experience, leading many players to reevaluate the game more positively over the years.
Final Fantasy XV was a departure from the typical turn-based combat of many previous games in the series. Still, it was praised for its huge open environment, memorable cast of characters, cinematic storytelling, and real-time action gameplay. These characteristics and years of post-launch updates have helped establish its reputation as a considerably superior experience to what some early impressions suggested.
Square Enix has not yet confirmed a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy XV at this time. But its recent comments suggest it’s still a possibility, giving fans more reason to hope that Noctis and his friends might someday leap to Nintendo’s latest platform.
