Take Two and Zynga have Merged in a Titanic Deal of $12.7 Billion

Take Two’s merger with Zynga is one of the largest deals in the games industry’s history, only matched by Microsoft’s Activision-Blizzard buyout and PlayStation’s Purchase of Bungie.

Game industry purchases are becoming a consistent story that seems to never-endingly gain traction. Microsoft’s purchase of Activision-Blizzard (which still seeks regulatory approval) and PlayStation’s purchase of Bungie have been titanic shifts in the industry. Not to mention Square Enix’s sale of many of its famous IPs and studios to Embracer Group, which also occurred.

It is not surprising that we continue hearing more news regarding tectonic shifting purchases. Take-Two recently revealed that they have merged with Zynga. For those unaware, Take Two is the infamous publisher behind the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption franchises. But behind that, they also have NBA 2K, Bioshock, and Borderlands all under their roof. That is still not every franchise they hold.

Zynga, on the other hand, is a successful mobile game company with a huge slate of famous mobile titles, such as Farmville, Words with Friends, Golf Rival, and the CSR Racing Series.”We are extremely pleased with the results from our Special Meeting earlier today, and I’d like to thank our stockholders for their support as we embark on this exciting new chapter for our business,” said Strauss Zelnick, Chairman and CEO of Take Two Interactive.

He further went on to state that “We believe that our combination with Zynga will be transformative for our company as we create a powerful and diverse portfolio of industry-leading titles, while also becoming a leader in mobile games.” This deal inherently
barrages the industry with questions. What combinations will we see emerge from the deal? We can easily see our favourite franchises, like Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption, making their way to mobile. Would any of you like to see that? Comment down below what you think.

Regardless of all of this, it can be clearly seen that this $12.7 billion is another tectonic shift to join the already abundant amount of tectonic shifts.
