The Last of Us Part 1 is a full-scale remake of the beloved original title.

At the beginning of the year, it was theorized that we would be receiving The Last of Us Remake sometime this year. While the rumors circulated, Naughty Dog kept quiet… until now. It was revealed at Summer Games Fest this year that, yes, the rumors were true. The Last of Us Part 1 (or remake) is coming with developer Naughty Dog having rebuilt the game from the ground up.

At Summer Games Fest, they dropped a trailer showing the game’s vast graphical improvements, which make it look fantastic. The trailer shows a variety of notable moments in a game that many still consider to be one of the best made. While the release of The Last of Us Part 2 was a little bit more turbulent and controversial (I loved the game), the release of this remake will surely be a treat for any gamers wishing to dive into a stellar experience, revamped.

The presentation covered more details, and director Neil Druckman explained that so many areas of the game had been revamped. He stated, “Everything is rebuilt from the ground up; the same art director re-directed the whole thing from the ground up.”

He further stated, “These faces are closer to the original performance,” meaning that Naughty Dog’s animators ensured that Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson’s incredible performances as Joel and Ellie were even closer to what they did in Motion capture.

Finally, it was also stated that both the AI and combat were redone and that the game will run at a smooth 60fps, the same as many other titles that also feature on the PS5. The Last of Us Part 1 will be released on September 2nd, 2022, at a total retail price.
