In January of 2026, the Nintendo Switch 2 will be released with the Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon by NIS America.

In 2024, Trails Beyond the Horizon was released in Asia for PC and several systems by the renowned Japanese firm Nihon Falcom. This time, the stakes are much higher as players are whisked away to the politically unstable continent of Zemuria once again. In addition to that, this game also requires consoles.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon, developed and published by NIS America, will launch for the Nintendo Switch 2 in January 2026. The highly anticipated sequel to the best-selling Trails subseries, Trails Through Daybreak II, debuted in Western markets in February 2025.

Several new features are integrated into The Legend of Heroes to enhance the overall user experience. You can experience both polished turn-based combat and real-time exploration in this game. The entire party can benefit from Shard Commands, and certain characters can get temporary advantages in battle through the Awakening system.

Moreover, Combat becomes more tactical with the addition of Z.O.C., which slows down enemies. Another stop for players is Grim Garten, a unique dungeon where they can throw a “dream party” including NPCs from all across the Trails realm, not only Calvard. For die-hard fans, this is sure to be a memorable and entertaining event.

The epic Trails tale will conclude with Trails Beyond the Horizon, according to NIS America. The game’s goal is to bring together lore from over the years while also introducing fresh elements that will propel the series into thrilling new paths.

Its original release date was set for 2025, and it was confirmed for the original Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. There will be a delay in the release until January 2026, though, to align with the Nintendo Switch 2 version. This will provide players with a fresh perspective on the upcoming major installment in the series.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon

Exclusive to the NIS Online Store, NIS America has revealed a Limited Edition of Trails Beyond the Horizon: The Legend of Heroes. Only dedicated fans and collectors will be interested in this. In addition to the full game, this version includes a collector’s box, an art book, a Digipak music disc, a tailor-made Steelbook case, and an acrylic clock featuring artwork from the game, all for $109.99.

This follows NIS America’s recent announcement that Disgaea 7 Complete will be available for the Nintendo Switch 2. Enhanced gameplay, including characters without stat limitations, fresh material, a new episode, and all previously released downloadable content (DLC), will be a part of this revised version of Disgaea7: Vows of the Virtueless.

Everyone who loves Japanese role-playing games is in for a treat in January 2026. As the Trails series enters its last arc, Trails Beyond the Horizon will be the game that takes advantage of the Nintendo Switch 2’s enhanced graphics and performance.
