The Sims 4 Update has Inadvertently Caused Sims to Auto-Age Up to Death and Want to Date Family Members

The Sims 4 update that added the requested ‘Wants’ system has seemed to be more trouble than it’s worth.

The Sims 4’s brand new High School Years expansion launched on Thursday to the delight of many Sims fans worldwide. However, Maxis dropped an update for the base game earlier in the week, and this update appears to have a great deal of unintended and bizarre side effects. Sims are becoming attracted to and wish to date family members, while other Sims are aging up incredibly fast.

The Sims’ official Twitter stated this:

Hey Simmers! We are currently investigating instances involving Sims auto-aging up in saves using the Short or Long lifespan. We recommend temporarily playing in or creating new saves with the default/“normal” lifespan, as we work towards a solution.

When logging into The Sims 4, players will now receive a pop-up warning regarding the bug. Players have been encouraged to simply use the ‘normal’ lifespan setting until the bug is fixed. This update also brought the titular ‘Wants’ feature that has been present in past Sims titles. However, this system seems to have come with some caveats, as players have reported their Sims wanting to date their very own family members. A quality designer on The Sims 4 stated this on Twitter:

I just wanted to acknowledge that the Want to date a family member is something we know about, we’ve reproduced ourselves, we’re working on it. We’re looking to get it fixed ASAP, thanks for all the bug reports, we appreciate it. We’re of course working on the aging bug too.

The development team at Maxis is working very hard to eliminate these bugs. This new update was highly anticipated by the Sims 4 community, and it is quite sad that its buggy release has marred it. Regardless, fans will be happily engaging with both this update and the brand new High School Years expansion.
