Backwards Compatibility Imminent On PS5 As PS3 Games Have Been Spotted On Store With Prices

One of the primary issues surrounding Sony’s bright spark, PlayStation, is the lack of Backwards Compatibility it possesses. Xbox has been a staple of this area of the industry, permitting players to enjoy games from almost two decades ago, games that were released before the existence of 4k or even Blu-Ray discs.

It looks like this may change. Recently, fans across the world have seen that PlayStation 3 games are appearing all across the PlayStation Store. Why is this important? You may be wondering. Well, normally, when pressed on the store, these games take you to PlayStation Now, but not anymore.

Twitter user Adventkamen wrote this:

The image again shows PlayStation 3 Games with prices attached. This, combined with rumours claiming that Sony was developing a New service code-named ‘Spartacus’ to combat and rival Xbox Game Pass, makes it is all the more likely that this means Backwards Compatibility is on its way.

Furthermore, with other PlayStation titles like God of War and Death Stranding meandering their way onto PC. It seems that Sony may be taking a far more ‘open’ policy in regards to games than we have seen from the company in the past.

However, I will say, take this with a grain of salt, as Twitter user Ryan Biniecki wrote this on Twitter:

Before this spreads like wild fire, a few things to point out:

– This visual bug has happened many times over the years.
– It's pulling the price from when PS Now let you pay to rent games individually.
– Prince of Persia games used to be on PS Now, so no – they're not new. https://t.co/z4SMaOQGiE

Everything he says is pretty accurate, and it could easily be a visual glitch that has permeated the PlayStation Store for some time.

At the same time, we can be hopeful that perhaps PlayStation fans will finally be able to enjoy true Backwards Compatibility and enjoy all the PlayStation 3 games (and earlier if we’re lucky…) that established PlayStation as such an incredible console.
