Ubisoft co-founder expressed his desire for the companies independence, whilst simultaneously expressing that any offer would at the very least be considered.
Ubisoft has some of the most successful IPs on the planet. From the titular Assassin’s Creed to Rainbow Six to Splinter Cell (Make another Splinter Cell, please) and more. Ubisoft’s independence has been called into question many times over the years. Due to Ubisoft’s unique position in the games industry, many larger companies to this day are tempted to gobble them up and absorb all of their incredible IPs. However, Ubisoft has been infamously averse to it. In 2017, Vivendi attempted to purchase Ubisoft but was ultimately declined.
This somewhat shifts, as in a recent Ubisoft conference call. According to Niko Senior Analyst Daniel Ahmad, Ubisoft co-founder Yves Guillemot is open to remaining independent but will review any offer. Now this may be a somewhat simple statement, Ahmad stated as much in his following tweet:
But regardless, this openness to a potential buy means that it at the very least could be considered in consideration around the global sphere of gaming. The recent trend in the industry has been major purchases, and it would be no surprise if we got more. Particularly from the competitors of PlayStation and Microsoft, who seem to be buying large swathes of the games industry.
It would seem to be an intriguing purchase, as in the very same conference call, we heard information in regards to Skull and Bones and other IPs. Whatever the situation turns into, everyone is waiting with bated breath as the future of the games industry seemingly becomes more and more complicated. We are excited for the next step that any company takes in this regard. February has been a busy month so far in the world of gaming, and it seems to have no chance of ending anytime soon.
