Xbox's 25th-anniversary plans include a new X25 controller, upcoming console hardware, and a collaboration with IKEA on gaming furniture.
XBOX is gearing up for its 25th birthday with new hardware and plans to celebrate. XBOX may reveal additional details about the system and other projects closer to Gamescom, and the X25 Special Edition controller will likely be available before the anniversary.
Xbox Wireless Controller Special Edition X25 is likely to cost $79.99 and will be available for purchase on October 20, 2026. It takes features from the original Xbox console, and the Xbox controller arrives ahead of the Xbox's scheduled 25th birthday in November.
Xbox Controller Is Expected In October
Microsoft will confirm the details next week at Gamescom, and pre-orders will open on August 26. Microsoft has not said anything about the X25 Special Edition Xbox Series X console, and no leaks have surfaced yet. As part of the Xbox brand's quarter-century anniversary in June, XBOX unveiled a limited-edition Xbox Series X console in homage to the original Xbox.
The console is likely to be available starting in November. So far, only the controller has details, with a $79.99 price tag. For those who don't want to buy the console, the controller could be offered as a 25th-anniversary option. Even with a standard Series X or Series S, the controller would work with the console.
In the end, it may be worth having a slice of the 25th anniversary with the controller. The design is also attractive to collectors, and some may not remove the controller from the box. If it's within the price range, more people may be interested in buying the full package. If you're waiting to hear what happens with Series X pricing, the controller has another option.
More Xbox Updates Are Coming
Announcements may also be made at the main opening-night live performance. The event will be on Tuesday, August 25, which is before the X25 controller details on August 26. For those following the Xbox 25th anniversary plans, Gamescom could get answers on the controller, the furniture partnership, and maybe even the Xbox Series X25 console.
