The Super Nintendo classic Donkey Kong Country will soon be playable on Switch.

July 2020’s Nintendo Switch online games are the NES’ The Immortal, Natsume Championship, and SNES’ Donkey Kong Country. In July 2020, these games will be available to all Nintendo Switch Online subscribers announced by Nintendo. Meanwhile, the Switch Online’s NES category is getting the 1990 dark fantasy RPG The Immortal.

Also included in the SNES selection of games is 1994’s Natsume Championship Wrestling. Donkey Kong Country is punishing. Alongside Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars and Final Fantasy III (VI!), it’s one of the high-profile SNES games. They have appeared on the Super Nintendo Classic and the Nintendo’s Virtual Console but have not yet made it to Switch Online. Initially released in 1994, Donkey Kong Country starred Diddy Kong and Donkey Kong as they worked to take down the Kremlings and the evil King K. Rool.

Nintendo reveals some secrets players can use when playing the game, including 101% Completion, Start with 50 Lives, Bonus Area Practice, and Diddy’s Extra Lives. Even though some of your nostalgic feelings may take a hit when replaying it, DKC’s gameplay is still a lot of fun. You may find yourself a broken man a couple of hours later, having not even made it to the second world. Be prepared to die a lot, and resist the urge to throw your Switch on the TV.

To play Donkey Kong Country on the Switch, you can buy a subscription for $4/£3.49 a month, $8/£7 every three months, or $20/£18 a year. You’ll also have immediate access to a pretty generous selection of NES and SNES games, including most of the classics, as well as plenty of more niche titles. For retro gaming fans, it’s more than worth the entry price.
