Grand Theft Auto V Sold A Ton Of Copies During UK Lockdown

Grand Theft remains the best-selling game of all time, having sold a huge number of copies during the COVID-19 lockdown period in the UK.

Many new and recent games have benefited from stronger sales after the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world. But one of the biggest winners is Grand Theft Auto V, which is almost seven years old. It was the third highest-selling game of the lockdown period and the fifth highest-selling entertainment product in the UK. Indeed, the game has performed so well in the UK.

Data showed that Grand Theft Auto V sold almost 439k physical and download copies during the March 23 to June 13 lockdown period, according to the Entertainment Retailers Association (ERA). The game has remained the highest-selling game in the UK since 2014 and has now sold a staggering 135 million copies worldwide, putting it behind only Minecraft in the all-time global sales charts.

These figures mean it has sold over a hundred million more copies than the second-best-selling game in the series, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. According to sales data from GSD, the aging title was also the biggest-selling game in the UK in both January and February 2020. Perhaps more surprising is that these numbers are in addition to the hugely successful Epic Games Store promotion, which gave the game away for free in May.

Especially given the current titles are expected to be delivered on the cutting edge reassures in late 2021, then proceeding with the achievement of Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online shows why Rockstar Games is in no rush to deliver the development. While a few gossipy tidbits recommend a Vice City-themed spin-off is in progress and that Sony is in exchanges for coordinated selectiveness on the PlayStation 5, gamers are probably not going to hear any official news for quite a while.

We can say that Rockstar should buckle down if it needs to proceed with the achievement of the fifth game in the arrangement. Grand Theft Auto V is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with a release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X expected for late 2021.
