New Obsidian Fantasy RPG Avowed Coming To Xbox Series X

The next big RPG from the creators of Fallout: New Vegas and The Outer Worlds, Obsidian announces Avowed at the Xbox Series X showcase.

Including the State of Decay 3 from developer Undead Labs, multiple games are announced today at Microsoft’s Xbox Games showcase. But the next single-player RPG Avowed is perhaps one of the most exciting announcements from the acclaimed studio Obsidian Entertainment.

Today, Obsidian announced its next RPG, Avowed. According to the game’s new website, Avowed is Obsidian Entertainment’s next epic, first-person RPG set in the fantasy world of Erora. Eora is the world in which the Pillars of Eternity series takes place, another franchise Obsidian has created in its very busy history. Pillars of Eternity’s first release was in 2015, and its sequel, Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire, was released in 2018.

Not much is known about the game as the trailer was rather short, but it opens on the war being waged with a narrator speaking of how the world of Eora has always known war. The trailer briefly shows the assumed protagonist taking up a sword and wielding a spell before cutting to the title of Avowed. This is the only game Obsidian showed today, as Obsidian has been keeping extra busy.

The studio also showed a new trailer for Grounde, a first-person multiplayer survival-adventure game that looks like a mix of Fortnite, Left 4 Dead, and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. Avowed does not yet have a release window, and there’s no release date set for it. It’s unclear whether the Xbox One will support the game.
