Rogue Company Season 2 Review

Review Overview

It’s been quite some time coming, but the hugely anticipated Rogue Company Season 2 is finally available. The inaugural season was good and was very enjoyable, to say the least, but the game had some holes that needed to be filled to stand a chance to compete against Battle Royale juggernauts such as Apex Legends.

However, seeing as it was the first season, they could somewhat get away with it, as long as they made greater improvements in future seasons to the gameplay, game modes, and so on. The third-person gameplay was good as it gives a Fortnite vibe, without the building mechanics.

Season 2 is an add-on for the free-to-play third-person shooter Rogue Company, which was developed by First Watch Games, published by Hi-Rez Studios, and was released on the 1st October 2020. Season 2 was released on the 11th of May 2021.

Rogue Company is available on platforms ranging from PC to PlayStation 5. With Season 2, you would experience significant changes and expectedly some improvements to the game. Some of the main changes are the new character you get, as well as the new Battle Pass, a brand-new map for players to express themselves with, and so on. It is fair to say that First Watch Games has listened to its fans and has made Rogue Company a much more playable game.

One reason I was so excited to play Season 2 is the new character that you need to purchase with Rogue bucks acquire. Mack is his name. There were some previews of the new character, and after looking at his gameplay, you would want to play as him.

Mack is a bigger and worse character that should not be messed with, and going up against him, you are asking for trouble. Let’s not forget about his powerful ultimate that will aggravate your enemies, especially with the light bomb ability that would temporarily blind them, which gives you the perfect opportunity to finish them off.

You will love the new LMG weapon that you get with this new character, which is called Conviction. Let me tell you, this weapon melts like butter, and you are also going to have a field day with the Claymore melee weapon, especially after you have upgraded it. The sword is so powerful that on many occasions, you’d prefer to use it rather than waste precious ammunition.

If there is a motive in playing Season 2, it could be their brand-new Battle Pass. Wanted to see what content was in it, the items, and if any items were worth grinding out the game for. But most importantly, to see whether the Season 2 Battle Pass is better than Season 1.

I must say, this season’s Battle Pass is an upgrade to the inaugural season. Just like Season 1, this season you get 50 tiers, but you must earn them by grinding out the game. I particularly loved some selections of weapons and character skins that add coolness to the new Season. Especially the Dotted Deco weapon camo, which has a very attractive vintage pattern that would make you think of the 1960s.

Another new feature that has brought a spark to the new Season 2 is the brand-new map called Breach. A very interesting map that would bring a lot of creativity out of players in getting the upper hand on their enemies. This map gives you a Call of Duty vibe as it resembles a few maps from the franchise.

One, in particular, is the Breakout map from Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare with the snow mountain location, bridges, zip lines, crates, and so on. Even though this is a large map, the pace of the gameplay strangely remains, as there are a lot of areas in this map that present close-edged vibes that would keep the level of action intact.

Unfortunately, the map’s design lacks originality, but it is still visually appealing. The consistent colors, a giant indoor section, a smaller outdoor section, and the destruction of certain objects, such as vehicles, give that feeling of abandonment. Not to mention that if you are to play on the next-gen console, the 4K resolution has taken the graphics to a different level.

One minor detail that might not be talked about as much is that with this map, there are many spaces to bounce grenades. You probably won’t be able to find many negatives for this map. And when you are playing with friends, the thrill increases significantly.

Moreover, when you and your team come up with all kinds of different strategies in this cool new map. This is better than the default map in Season 1, and it’s obvious that First Watch Games have taken their time with this map.

Ultimately, Rogue Company Season 2 is without a doubt an upgrade to last season. The new rogue is so much fun to use, especially with the weapons and abilities that come with it. The new Battle Pass will somewhat motivate you to grind out the game to acquire all items. The new map is good in so many ways, and the enjoyment heightens with friends. First Watch Games still has a long way to go to make Rogue Company compete with other top-level Battle Royale games.

However, with the much-needed improvements included in Season 2, they are most definitely on the right track. Although I would suggest some more originality and creativity in future seasons to entice more gamers into wanting to play this game. As they say, there’s always room for improvement, and hopefully, there will be much more to look forward to in Season 3.
