Rogue Legacy 2 was teased and then confirmed in early April. But it will arrive sooner than fans might have expected. In 2013, the roguelike platformer Rogue Legacy made a splash upon its release. It allowed players to explore a randomly generated castle. Each play-through would offer different surprises. The game built up a family story.

Each new playthrough would put players in command of a new descendant of the character who had come before. Developer Cellar Door Games has dropped a new trailer today. They have announced that the game will launch into Early Access on the Epic Games Store and PC via Steam on 23rd July.

Its sequel Rogue Legacy 2 is also surprisingly close to launching in Early Access. New twists include differing primary weapons for use by the descendants and a refreshed hand-drawn art style. In the previous game, everyone used a sword. But this time barbarians carrying arches and axes with arrows and bows are seen.

New quirks for the ancestors are also in the mix. It makes each playthrough a bit more unique than what the previous game promised. The new trailer shows off a similar structure. It promises that every child will be unique. They will be with different skills that will help them traverse the new dungeons.

The plan is to roll out major updates. These updates will include things like features like new player classes, NPCs, and new biomes every two months. They will be punctuated by smaller updates. Things like equipment, relics, rooms, spells, and traits will also be punctuated while bug fixes will flow as needed.

The expectation for Rogue Legacy 2 is that it will be in Early Access for about a year. Developers also warned that the timeline isn’t carved in stone. And it could be affected by anything from excitement to bad planning for a new feature. It will launch at $20 and will rise to $25 at around the halfway point and will be $30 when it is fully released.

Rogue Legacy 2 is coming soon to the Epic Games Store. It is available for wishlisting on Steam.
