PlayStation Showcase on December 3, 2024

There has been no word yet regarding a PlayStation Showcase or status update for December.

This week, similar to Xbox’s Handheld commercial, Sony has also released their PlayStation holiday commercial, which notably lacks any gaming content and instead shows kids having fun on the streets. If there aren’t any major games coming out this season, I suppose that’s an approach to try. However, the scene with a train sign displaying the time as 03 12 20:24 is what really had me thinking about this portion of the commercial.

According to Jeff Grubb, who has accurately reported on all previous updates, there has been no word yet regarding a PlayStation Showcase or status update for December. My expectations are thus low. At last year’s Game Awards on December 12, Sony revealed the God of War Ragnarök Valhalla DLC, which came as a pleasant surprise and was released a week later.

If Sony shows anything new, it will be at this venue. Perhaps Sony is preparing for the Horizon Online announcement at The Game Award show, if not an update on Lost Soul Aside. That display will undoubtedly have some noteworthy items.

There is widespread speculation that Sony is hinting at a possible event on December 3, 2024. That would be fantastic because Sony is long overdue for another massive display similar to the one in the early PS5 years. On the other hand, this is most likely merely a celebration of the PlayStation’s 30th anniversary. In Japan, the first PlayStation was released on December 3, 1994.

Sure, it would be great if Sony made a slew of announcements to celebrate, but that’s simply not their style these days. They will make an announcement when it is almost time for their release, but otherwise, they are quite reserved.
